Anekdooteistaan ja värikkäistä tositarinoistaan tunnettu Ari tarkastelee hallintoa analyyttisen kriittisellä, mutta samalla lempeän ymmärtävällä otteella. Nuorena poikana Ari ei ajatellut menevänsä ulkoministeriöön töihin tai tulevansa aikuisena kansainvälisten kehittämisprojektien vetäjäksi. Kasvuhalu ohjasi hänen valintojaan. Ari uskoo, että ihmisellä on halu jatkuvasti täydentää itseään, osaamistaan. Jean-Jacques Rousseau käytti tästä termiä 'perfectibilité'. Ari ei sanonut "ei" uusille haasteille, vaan käytti kasvun mahdollisuudet hyväkseen.
