Uma grande necessidade de estudos para a utilização de combustíveis alternativos vêem sendo exigida atualmente. O presente trabalho apresenta a metodologia para o estudo experimental e simulação do sistema termodinâmico (zero - dimensional) do desempenho em um motor de combustão interna de ignição por compressão (ciclo diesel) utilizando etanol como combustível alternativo ao óleo diesel. Utilizou-se como fator de ignição o método do Ponto Quente, partindo deste método, os resultados obtidos em dinamômetro serão confrontados com uma simulação no software Chemikinʼ. Dos resultados obtidos destacam-se as comparações das curvas características do motor obtidas em dinamômetro com ambos os combustíveis. Também será discutida a metodologia empregada e as modificações realizadas. São apresentados valores comparativos de consumo de combustível, pressão de combustão e temperaturas em geral, esses resultados irão sustentar a viabilidade desta substituição entre os combustíveis e também serão comentadas as dificuldades em se utilizar um combustível alternativo como o etanol nos motores de ignição por compressão. Comparação entre os métodos experimentais e modelos da taxa de liberação de energia também serão apresentado.
