"Este trabajo tiene por finalidad mostrar el contenido del Convenio para la eliminación de todas las formas de discriminación contra las mujeres (CEDAW, por sus siglas en inglés), aprobado por la Asamblea general de Naciones Unidas en 1979; así como del protocolo opcional al mismo, aprobado en la misma sede 20 años más tarde. El artículo 24 del Convenio establece que Los Estados Partes se comprometen a adoptar todas las medidas necesarias en el ámbito nacional para conseguir la plena realización de los derechos reconocidos en la presente Convención. Para ello, es necesario que todas las personas que trabajan en el ejercicio del Derecho, así como quienes lo hacen en la judicatura, la fiscalía y los gobiernos conozcan el contenido de la Convención y del protocolo. Difundir y facilitar este conocimiento es lo que justifica la elaboración de este trabajo. Analiza cada uno de los artículos de los instrumentos mencionados, desgranando su contenido para facilitar su utilización en el ámbito del Derecho interno de cada Estado. Junto a ello, se ha tenido en cuenta el trabajo del Comité CEDAW. Se han incluido también todas las recomendaciones generales aprobadas por el Comité del CEDAW, que son hasta ahora 39. En ellas, el Comité ha especificado el sentido de algunos de los artículos del Convenio, lo que facilita su implementación e interpretación. De este modo, esta obra ofrece información sobre el contenido del Convenio CEDAW y de su protocolo opcional, dando a conocer las recomendaciones aprobadas por el Comité para facilitar la implementación de las disposiciones legales en el Derecho interno de cada Estado".
