Mulheres em cena- as trajetórias de Ana Aurora e Malvina no Limiar do Século XX narra as trajetórias de duas professoras que viveram no final do século XIX e início do XX, a partir de uma perspectiva de gênero- Ana Aurora do Amaral Lisboa (1860-1951) e Julia Malvina Hailliot Tavares (1866-1939). Na memória historiográfica houve um reemprego sucessivo de categorias que fixaram no tempo o feminismo de Ana Aurora e o anarquismo da Malvina cristalizando essas formulações a seus respectivos itinerários. Assim, entre aproximações e distanciamentos com homens e mulheres de sua época, analiso suas trajetórias a partir dos lugares de origem de seus percursos, da configuração de seus laços familiares e das escolhas profissionais que marcaram suas vidas. No campo de possibilidades em que estavam inseridas, as ações destas personagens evidenciam os paradoxos e tensões constitutivas daquele contexto. As vidas de Malvina e Ana Aurora estiveram constantemente atreladas as suas atuações profissionais na complexa arte de ensinar, numa atividade que se estendeu por décadas em ambos os casos.

A intervenção feminina contribuiu para mudar o curso da Revolução Francesa. Em 5 de outubro de 1789, as vendedoras de peixe de Paris e outras mulheres das camadas populares, acompanhadas por soldados da Guarda Nacional marcharam até Versalhes para protestar contra a escassez do pão. A crise era de subsistência, mas o tom, político. O rei Luís XVI se recusava a aceitar os decretos aprovados pela Assembleia Nacional no mês de agosto, entre eles a importante Declaração dos Direitos do Homem e do Cidadão. Indignadas com a atitude do rei e exasperadas pela falta de alimentos básicos, cerca de sete mil mulheres se fizeram ver e ouvir de forma contundente, exigindo providências do rei e dos deputados da Assembléia. Na manhã seguinte, aos brados de "a Paris! a Paris!" pressionaram o monarca a abandonar o Palácio de Versalhes e a se mudar para a capital. Assim, a multidão retornou a Paris vitoriosa, escoltando a carruagem da família real. "Os homens tomaram a Bastilha, as mulheres tomaram o Rei!", disse o historiador Jules Michelet. Uma semana depois, a Assembleia Nacional também deixou Versalhes e se estabeleceu em Paris, que voltou a ser o centro político do país. A intervenção feminina contribuiu para mudar o curso da Revolução Francesa. A Marcha a Versalhes marcou a entrada dramática das mulheres na cena política nacional. "Foi uma iniciativa política sofisticada, porque, com a concentração do poder em Versalhes, o rei ficava longe da pressão popular e mais exposto às influências da rainha e da corte, e se utilizava do direito de veto, que ainda possuía no início da Revolução, para impedir que as reformas fossem realizadas. Ao trazerem Luís XVI para Paris, as mulheres mudaram o centro de gravidade do processo revolucionário e propiciaram à população da capital um novo protagonismo", diz Tania Machado Morin.
