This book provides readers with a study of the characteristics that make life unique for sexual minorities in Brazil while also viewing Brazil in relation to global LGBT sociopolitical movements. It critically assesses the complex relationship(s) between the visual arts and political activism, carefully analyzing artistic, cinematic, and photographic representations of LGBTQ identities. Brazil provides a useful case to example, with the cultivation of ambiguity in contemporary (re)constructions of queer life. In this book, the author conducts the first comprehensive discourse analysis of the dynamics and features of the largest LGBT Pride Parade in the world. This problematizes and analyzes the relationship between burgeoning critical socio-political movements and institutions and the language and new media discourses used to configure and conceptualize them. The aim of this project is to create a theoretical scholarly framework promoting linkages between political activism and academic scholarship and by using discourse analysis, the intricacies of terminology Brazilian sexual minorities adopt and adapt, illustrating the development of LGBTQ identities through performative language use.

The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) project is research funded by the United States Air Force, the Navy and the University of Alaska with the official purpose of understanding, simulating and controlling ionospheric processes that could change the operation of communications and surveillance systems. It started in 1993 with a series of experiments over twenty years. It is similar to numerous existing ionospheric heaters around the world, and has a large number of diagnostic instruments with the aim of improving the scientific knowledge of ionospheric dynamics. There is speculation that the HAARP project is a US weapon capable of controlling the climate by causing floods and other catastrophes. In 1999, the European Parliament issued a resolution stating that HAARP was manipulating the environment for military purposes, calling for an assessment of the project by Science and Technology Options Assessment (STOA), the European Union body responsible for studying and assessing new technologies. In 2002, the Russian Parliament presented President Vladimir Putinwith a report signed by 90 deputies from the International Relations and Defence committees, claiming that HAARP was a new geophysical weapon capable of manipulating the earth s lower atmosphere. In May 2014 it was announced by the US Air Force that the project would be terminated. The project was created by US Senator Ted Stevens, when he exercised great control over the US defense budget.

Esta coletânea foi idealizada a partir das constatações de nosso trabalho junto ao Núcleo de Direitos Humanos e Cidadania de Marília em seus dezenove anos de atividades em Marília (SP) e região e dos resultados de pesquisas que têm mostrado a persistência deste grave problema social, a violência contra as mulheres. Considerando que a vida em sociedade é permeada por resistências, avanços e recuos, é preciso provocar o debate e divulgar que a desigualdade ainda é visível tanto na política, quanto no mundo do trabalho e nos altos índices de violência contra as mulheres o que vai contra os direitos humanos das mulheres, garantidos constitucionalmente. Tal realidade mostra a necessidade, ademais, de investimento na educação para a igualdade de gênero. Com este propósito, apresentamos esta obra que conta com textos que apresentam as constatações de investigações de renomadas pesquisadoras e pesquisadores, assim, pretendemos contribuir para o avanço do conhecimento acerca da violência de gênero em suas diferentes manifestações. Para tanto, os textos versarão sobre as políticas de combate à violência contra as mulheres bem como ações positivas desenvolvidas no Canadá, na Espanha, em Portugal, na Argentina, no México e no Brasil, com especial olhar sobre a educação para a igualdade de gênero contemplando a diversidade de ser mulher. Para aprofundar o debate sobre os estudos de gênero não podemos deixar de relembrar o importante papel dos movimentos feministas apontando sua influência tanto na legislação, quanto nas políticas, dentre elas as educacionais, visando a garantia dos direitos das mulheres.
