A presente obra analisa as origens históricas das desigualdades de gênero na política, no Brasil e no mundo, desde a democracia direta da Antiguidade grega, ainda cinco séculos antes de Cristo, até a fundação da Democracia Moderna, no século XVIII, quando as mulheres permaneceram alijadas de seus direitos políticos. Considerando que metade da população mundial foi proibida de votar e ser votada pelo menos até as primeiras décadas do século XX, busca-se apresentar a evolução legislativa da conquista dos direitos políticos pelas mulheres, especialmente no Brasil, desde o Código Eleitoral de 1932 até as primeiras cotas e políticas afirmativas implementadas por lei, com vistas a acelerar a participação feminina nos espaços eletivos, incluindo-se as legislações mais recentes de combate à violência política e institucional de gênero. Para além disso, procede-se a uma análise profunda das ainda gritantes desigualdades, discriminações e violências de gênero sofridas pelas mulheres, simplesmente pelo fato de serem mulheres, não apenas nos espaços de representação política, mas também nas demais instituições e na própria sociedade, com dados, pesquisas e números atualizados até os primeiros meses de 2022. Apresenta-se uma proposta de reforma profunda nas instituições, na organização do sistema político e na legislação brasileira, com vistas a implementar uma democracia paritária participativa, que se estruture desde a base, com participação feminina nas direções partidárias, nos conselhos de participação social, nos cargos de liderança das empresas, nas carreiras jurídicas, na academia, enfim, em todos os espaços de deliberação social e tomadas de decisão, sem deixar de considerar as questões interseccionais e as multiplicidades de opressões que atravessam as mulheres, em toda a sua diversidade.

The link between economic development and education in Latin America is generally well-recognized. A literate and educated work force is the largest single factor in explaining economic growth. In this study, the editors and contributors survey the various elementary educational systems to investigate the reasons behind the failure of schools to retain students in elementary grades. A group of scholars looks at the current state of education in four countries: Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, with a view to designing more effective programs for reducing the dropout and grade repetition rates. Nesta investigação, analisam-se fontes históricas e sociais como fatores predominantes que moldam a diplomacia brasileira, bem como o contexto sociopolítico das relações internacionais, para se entender a pequena visibilidade das mulheres no cenário político e também os fatores que ainda dificultam o ingresso da maioria das mulheres na carreira diplomática no Brasil. Os caminhos teórico-metodológicos envolvidos levam em consideração a trajetória de luta pela visibilidade das mulheres e pelos direitos humanos no âmbito público, procurando-se, assim, seguir, a partir do debate das teorias feministas e de gênero e também da inserção desses discursos até então silenciados na esfera diplomática, uma abordagem de observação e análise de fontes documentais diversas, inclusive o audiovisual "Exteriores: Mulheres Brasileiras na Diplomacia". O aparato documental pesquisado visou tratar sobre as mudanças históricas na trajetória das mulheres na diplomacia desde sua inserção na vida pública (política), suas dificuldades e seus desafios, na intenção de fortalecer o diálogo sobre uma maior promoção de igualdade que permita a participação e ocupação do feminino em lugares de tomadas de decisões. Nesse contexto, como resultados, concluímos que o Itamaraty é um desses espaços institucionais.
