Dramaturgo y novelista, Sir James Matthew Barrie se mudó de Escocia a Londres para perseguir una carrera en literatura. Para entretener a los niños de la familia, contaba que los bebes eran aves antes de nacer, y que las cunas tenían barras para evitar que escaparan volando. Así fue como ideó al niño que se escabulló y voló a la tierra de Nunca Jamás. Barrie escribió muchos cuentos más, pero ninguno alcanzó la fama de Peter Pan. Al morir, dejó la fortuna del cuento para el más grande hospital de niños en Londres, el cual sigue beneficiando del nombre del niño que nunca creció.
