Sweater shop owner Paislee Shaw never feels more at home in Scotland than when she hears the bagpipes. But a murderer is about to introduce a sour note . . . With the summer days getting shorter in the seaside village of Nairn, the annual bagpiping competition at Ramsey Castle promises to be quite the end-of-season blowout. Paisley has snagged a special invitation from the dowager countess, who wants to showcase her cashmere goods in the castle gift shop, and she’s brought her son Brody, Grandpa, and their black Scottish terrier Wallace. There’s a fierce rivalry between Robert Grant, the Earl of Lyon, and last year’s winner Jory Baxter, with Grant loudly vowing to show up the blowhard Baxter and claim clan bragging rights. But the reigning champion has barely put the reed to his lips when he turns red and collapses, soon to take his dying breath. DI Zeffer suspects foul play. With a possible murderer in their midst, the rest of Nairn won’t breathe easy until Paisley applies her sleuthing skills to make sure justice is served and the killer pays the piper . . .

Book 3 in the Heathcliff Lennox series."A haunted castle, a murder mystery, a touch of humour and a dog of distinction."Halloween 1921. A castle on a rock in a lonely Scottish loch, Braeburn has been crumbling for centuries. Someone tries to remedy the rot but uncovers a skeleton behind a wall. It wears a crown upon its skull and hides a curse within its bones. Is it the ancient King of the Isles? Or is it Black Dougal? And why is it surrounded by mystery? As ghosts are heard and treasure seekers arrive, the Braeburn's call Major Heathcliff Lennox. He travels to the Highlands to help his old friends, taking his dog, his butler and his small cat. Major Heathcliff Lennox, ex-WW1 war pilot, 6 feet 3 inches, tousled, dark blond hair, age around 30 - named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother - much to his great annoyance.Amazon ReviewsJuliette Moody Absolutely Fabulous 5 starsMajor Lennox, Mr Fogg and Mr Tubbs are a true blessing, and who cannot forget Greggs. I love this foursome. Once again Heathcliff solves the murders and mysteries in all 3 books so well written by Karen Baugh Menuhin. I devoured all 3 books staying up each night to finish them, now I can get some rest finally until the next adventure. You will be delighted, entranced and thrilled by Ms Menuhin's writing. Julian Fellows beware, Karen is giving you a good bang for a buck.Jennifer N 5 StarsWell written and enjoyable. I don't generally write book reviews because so many people are so much better at it than I am! But I enjoyed the three Heathcliff Lenox books so much that I really wanted to give them a shout out when I got the email from Amazon asking me if this book met my expectations. The characters are very enjoyable, right down to the pets. Heathcliff is such an unassuming fellow and it is very amusing how he stumbles into solving crimes. The settings of the three different books have each been different lovely places that have been enjoyable to visit in my imagination. The books are set in the 1920s and are quite "clean" if that is something you look for. The ladies chastise the men for using such foul language as "damn and blast" which maybe occurs twice per book, if that. All in all they are lovely, intriguing and amusing stories which I found "light" but very enjoyable reads and they are very well written in terms of plot, structure, dialog, character development... all in all well worth your time. ENJOY!Dr. B 5 stars Wish there were more in this series The plots are good, the characters delightful but the "star" character is Major Heathcliff Lennox. Lennox does solve the crime of course but along the way, readers are treated to the wit of the author and to Lennox' character. He spoils his dog with treats, rescues a kitten who often sleeps in his coat pocket, values his valet who has his own quirks, and is often admiring a beautiful woman when he was supposed to be paying attention to the police inspector. Such fun to read. Start with the first in the series to get to know these characters.Ann Elliot Put a Candle in a Turnip, Munch Some Shortbread and Read Can a mystery be termed a "cozy" read if it takes place in a crumbling castle on a remote Scottish island with blizzards and hail storms? And the action happens around Samhain, the Scottish version of Halloween. Also, there is a skeleton in the wall, a seance, ghostly lights and a couple of ghastly murders.Ah, but in between the scenes of all that activity, there are the coziest moments when Lennox, our hero, dons his robe and sits in front of a roaring fire while he sips a dram of whiskey or has a cup of tea and tasty biscuits while his beloved spaniel, Mr. Fogg, and his pudgy kitten, Mr. Tubbs, curl up at his feet. The coziness of those scenes seeps off the page and onto the reader.Lennox even finds a lovely woman.

When Maud McIntyre and her assistant Daisy travel to a remote Scottish castle, the last thing they expect to find is a locked room murder mystery. Can they prise open this case and catch a killer? Scotland, 1912: When Maud and Daisy travel to Clachan Castle on the Isle of Mull to investigate the theft of a valuable statuette, at first the case seems straightforward. But when their prime suspect, bad-tempered fellow guest Mr Tremain, is found dead in his bed, the detective duo realise the castle is under attack... At first, it appears the murder is impossible. All the doors and windows to the room were locked from the inside, and there was no way for the killer to escape. But then Maud and Daisy find a secret panel with the stolen statuette hidden behind it, and learn that the mysteries are linked! When the local sergeant investigating the case is found dead, the crime suddenly seems to have more twists and turns than the castle's sweeping staircases. And with the estate full of potential suspects, Maud and Daisy must work fast to uncover the murderer. Could it be the castle's owner, Magnus Carmichael, avenging his stolen statuette? Or pretty Jane Tremain, disgruntled daughter of the deceased? Facing their most difficult case yet, Maud and Daisy must find the key to solving the mystery. But with so many suspects, which one will finally unlock the truth? An unputdownable historical whodunnit, perfect for fans of Helena Dixon, Verity Bright, T.E. Kinsey and Catherine Coles. An ancient curse has returned to haunt the present day... Etta, Dora and Leon are heading for another home swap, this time on the Isle of Mull, off the western coast of Scotland. However, rather than a house or flat, they arrive at a Scottish castle. Although a little rundown, it is a fascinating place to stay and, as dictated by Gaelic folklore, it comes complete with a ghost. The trio learns, to its collective dismay, that the castle's days are numbered. A developer has made an offer that's too good for the owner, who's unable to cope with the rising costs of maintaining the historic building, to refuse. But the local community in nearby Tobermory is most upset by the prospect of losing their heritage to a deluxe golf hotel for wealthy international guests, and a group of elderly folk plan to make things a little hard for the newcomers. When the developer is found dead, hit by the mace of a suit of armour standing in the castle hall, the locals' suspicions are raised. Have the elderly rebels strayed well over the fine line between legitimate protest and criminal offence? Or was the more supernatural hand of the ghost to blame? As the police scout around, searching for the truth, our favourite sleuths team up with the Tobermory community to return serenity to the town. However, despite the terrible death, the sale of the castle is still moving forward... *** The Ghost of Glengullion Castle is the sixth book in the riveting Homeswappers Mysteries, a humorous cosy series following the adventures of two retired teachers and their Basset Hound as they explore the most delightfully murderous travel destinations in Europe and put their skills as sleuths to the test. *** Written in British English, each light-hearted story is clean - no violence, sex or strong language Like the works of the maestro Agatha Christie, any Homeswappers mystery can be read as a standalone or they can all be enjoyed in sequence: 0.
