Dr. Tweechig Haroutunian Whisper chaired her small private liberal arts college's Women's Studies Department in the division of Behavioral Sciences until she decided to teach online from home, design a new women's studies curriculum, and broadcast a talk show on her college's Internet audio worldwide to celebrate convergence. Little did she know at first that this would lead to moonlighting teamwork in a new career as a private investigator on an adventure filled with more mystery than mystique. This time, Tweechig took the investigative approach by broadcasting her research on Internet audio around the world hunting for adventure and a team partner. Refusing to retire on command and flaunting white hair tucked under a baseball cap that read, "Sixty-Plus, So Give Me My Senior Discount Already!" Tweechig eagerly taught her Women's Studies courses online at home without having to utter a word in front of a class. A burst of pounding fired from her door. Pickles, her Siamese cat leapt from a chair and scurried behind the bed. Groggy and outraged, Tweechig leapt out of a pre-work nap in the blackness and slipped on a book she had tossed on the floor next to her bed. She skidded into the wall and went down hard. The pounding grew louder as she fumbled for the lamp switch. Doctor Tweechig Haroutunian Whisper's eyes ached at the light's brilliance. This time, the mystery in the Women's Studies Department would be murder to solve.

The essays in Killing Women: The Visual Culture of Gender and Violence find important connections in the ways that women are portrayed in relation to violence, whether they are murder victims or killers. The book’s extensive cultural contexts acknowledge and engage with contemporary theories and practices of identity politics and debates about the ethics and politics of representation itself. Does representation produce or reproduce the conditions of violence? Is representation itself a form of violence? This book adds significant new dimensions to the characterization of gender and violence by discussing nationalism and war, feminist media, and the depiction of violence throughout society.

Available Open Access under CC-BY-NC licence. Femicide, the killing of women and girls because of their gender, was until recently included in the category ‘homicide’, obscuring the special features of this social and gendered phenomenon. However, the majority of murders of women are perpetrated by men whom they know from family ties and are the result of intimate partner violence or so-called 'honour' killings. This book is the first one on femicide in Europe and presents the findings of a four-year project discussing various aspects of femicide. Written by leading international scholars with an interdiscplinary perspective, it looks at the prevention programmes and comparative quantitative and qualitative data collection, as well as the impact of culture. It proposes the establishment of a European Observatory on Femicide as a new direction for the future, showing the benefits of cross-national collaboration, united to prevent the murder of women and girls.

This is the second edition of the book. The book has been written especially for UGC NET Exam, which is conducted twice a year i.e. in June & December. Not a single book is available on Women’s Studies especially for UGC NET Exam. It is my endeavour to fill this gap. The first section of this book deals with important facts related to the subject. It contains all the information in tabular form for quick revision. Thereafter, 31 Sets of Question Papers (Paper II & Paper III) asked in previous UGC NET Exam from 2004 to 2015 has been solved with detailed explanations. If any NET aspirant studies these Question-Answers carefully then I am sure that success is not far for such aspirants, as often many questions from previous year exam are repeated or asked in a modified form each year. Those students who are appearing in State Level Eligibility Test or Ph. D Entrance Exam may also find this book equally useful for them.

Following the sound of a scream, history professor Andrew Stanard comes running. In the nearby departmental bathroom at Chesapeake Bay University, a woman has been murdered. She is quickly identified as Jenny Biggio, a graduate student, and she has quite obviously been strangled. The police are quick to suspect someone in the history departmentmost notably Professor Stanards protg Brendan Healy. Everyone knows Brendan was Jennys boyfriend, but it isnt common knowledge that Jenny checked out three pregnancy books from the university library the day she was murdered. A very public confrontation between Brendan and Jenny early in the day, however, points at the boyfriends guilt, and Brendan does little to defend himself, admitting he once served time in a juvenile correctional facility. Even so, Stanard knows theres more to this case than meets the eye. He understands the cops want to solve the murder quickly to get it off the front page; in order to save Brendan, Stanard does his own digging. He comes upon several overlooked suspects, including a squirrelly pizza deliveryman, a homeless wino with a felony-prone past, and a philandering professor. The deeper he digs, the more dangerous things get; soon Professor Stanard may be the killers next target.

The volume explores every aspect of females who murdered - from arrest through sentencing - and provides descriptions of ecological and other circumstances of the murders, the victims, the motives of the perpetrators, and their fates in court. The generous utilization of case examples dramatically reveals three homicide scenarios. This exploratory, descriptive study compares 296 females arrested for homicide in six urban areas - Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and New York City in 1979 and 1983. During field trips to these cities, which have the highest murder rates in the country, both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from police files, homicide records, FBI reports, and criminal information. Research analyses reveals a fascinating profile of today's female murderer. When Women Kill presents a comprehensive, yet highly readable, overview of this previously neglected subgroup of homicide offenders.
