Although there have been individual books published about famous murder cases ranging from serial killers, mass murderers and more . . . ."Murdered Judges of the Twentieth Century" is the first collection of its kind. Susan P. Baker started this project because she was concerned with the prevalence of violence in American courthouses in the 1980s and 1990s. She had always thought of a courthouse as a safe haven, a place where one came to resolve one's differences through peaceful means, a sanctuary if you will. she imagined that people had respect for the judiciary, for lawyers, for bailiffs, and for other folks who worked in the legal business whether or not at our safe haven. Although she knew of Federal Judge John Wood's assassination, she assumed it was a fluke. It was related to a drug case. Those people knew no bounds.

A scorned woman, an incensed deli owner, a drunken cop, and an antisocial son. These were the most memorable murder defendants to appear before Long Island judge Thomas M. Stark during his thirty-seven years on the bench. None was more notorious than Ronald DeFeo Jr., who in 1975 was convicted of shooting six members of his family, a crime that sparked tales of hauntings later recounted in the best-selling book The Amityville Horror: A True Story. Drawing from his personal files, Stark gives readers an inside look at the brutal murders, the frenzy over the alleged psychic events that followed, and DeFeo’s decades of shifting stories about what really happened that fateful night. The book’s other tales of true crime include long-forgotten cases that mesmerized Long Islanders from the 1960s to the 1980s: the murder-for-hire of an unfaithful paramour, a fire that took the lives of a mother and three children, a Southampton society melee, and more. A noted expert on criminal law, Stark delves into the legal issues raised by each murder and shares the thinking behind his rulings. These real-life cases are sure to fascinate fans of both true crime and courtroom drama as Stark brings to life tragic stories of love and betrayal, a feud turned deadly, partying gone awry, and a family killed in cold blood.

The Colour Of Injustice written by John Hostettler and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Law categories.

The case of Iain Hay Gordon involves a miscarriage of justice set against the backdrop of social, religious and class divides in Northern Ireland shortly after World War II. It lifts the lid on a closed world of privilege, hidden influences and opaque institutions whilst pointing out that the passage of time has not served to formally unmask the identity of the true perpetrator. The events involved a trial for murder of the daughter of a High Court judge in which an innocent man was convicted but a way had to be found to make sure he did not end up on the gallows. Hence the twists and turns of a tragic account in which a vulnerable young man was confined to a mental institution for a large part of his life. Beginning with his knee-jerk arrest, The Colour of Injustice revisits the facts, evidence and (sometimes exclusive) materials in the case, raising questions about the deficient investigation, peculiar trial and glossing over of key matters. In this first book on the case, well-known legal historian John Hostettler draws his own conclusions about what can only be described as a true story of criminal injustice - one of the most disturbing on record. Excerpt: The formal processes of criminal justice and the techniques of police interrogation apart, the investigative process is revealed to have been forensically incompetent ... The identity of Patricia Curran's killer remains unknown and, thanks to the performance of various members of the dramatis person in this tragedy it may ever remain so. Nonetheless, it may be possible with some accuracy to conjecture who the murderer might have been. John Hostettler is one of the UK's leading legal biographers, having written over 20 biographies and other books on legal history. With Richard Braby he was the author of the acclaimed and highly successful Sir William Garrow: His Life, Times and Fight for Justice as reflected in the BBC TV series Garrow's Law.
