When a Dublin family is torn apart, can a new start in Liverpool help heal the wounds? 1940s Dublin Handsome widower Johnny Cassidy is out of work, broken-hearted and lost as to how to look after his four children. At his lowest ebb, he's forced to realise that help sometimes comes from the strangest places. With Johnny's family over the sea in Liverpool, it's his wife's spinster cousin Nora who comes to the rescue and has her life turned upside down by this brood of children. With Nora around, Ella Cassidy can be a teenager again rather than trying to raise her younger siblings, while older brother, Sean, finds that music might be his salvation. It seems that each member of the Cassidy family cherishes secret dreams, but will they bring them together or tear them apart? A warm and inviting story of family and friendship, duty and desire, perfect for fans of Maureen Lee and Lyn Andrews.

302 pages, 741 black & white illustrations, 7.4 x 9.7 inches 18.8 x 24.6 cm. An anthology of some of the 'other' groups that were part of the 'Merseybeat' era. However, it is not possible to consider this book without reference to Manfred's previous publication, 'Beat Waves 'Cross the Mersey' (ISBN 9781588502018). While this book chronicles the stories of an additional 66 Merseyside groups, plus 108 line-ups, the combination of both books accounts for more than 750 'Merseybeat' groups that Manfred has researched and documented. As such, this publication should be considered to be a companion volume to 'Beat Waves 'Cross the Mersey'. While most people are familiar with the 'Beatles', there is a universal misconception that they invented 'Merseybeat'. However, nothing could be further from the truth as 'Merseybeat' was 'under construction' long before the 'Beatles' exploded onto the scene. While not in any way attempting to detract from their ability, it is important that anyone interested in that era gives consideration to the other groups that were the backbone of this phenomenon. 'Merseybeat' was a product created by the many hundreds of Liverpool groups that played there. So, here are the complete stories of another 66 'Merseybeat' groups, the names of some of them may be unfamiliar to those that were not part of the era. Regardless, it is a fascinating insight into one of the greatest musical revolutions of the 20th century.

Gerry and the Pacemakers were a leading British beat band of the '60s 'Merseybeat' scene. Like the Beatles, they came from Liverpool, were managed by Brian Epstein, with George Martin as producer. They were the 1st artist to top the UK Singles Chart with their first 3 single issues: 'How Do You Do It?', 'I Like It' & 'You'll Never Walk Alone', a feat without equal for 20 years until the mid-'80s, by another Liverpool group, Frankie Goes to Hollywood. One of their most famous songs, 'Ferry Cross the Mersey', refers to the River Mersey, which flows past Liverpool.
