Music, Space and Architecture offers a multidisciplinary approach. Contributors raise the question of how does sound (and music) influence the atmosphere of a building and visa versa. What makes the perfect music hall?

Aural architecture identifies those features of a building that can be perceived by the act of listening in them. Emerging from the challenge to reconstruct sonic and spatial experiences of the deep past, this book invites readers into the complex world of the Byzantine liturgy, experienced in its chanted form in interiors covered with monumental mosaics and frescoes. The multidisciplinary collection of ten essays explores the intersection of Byzantine liturgy, music, acoustics, and architecture in the Late Antique churches of Constantinople, Jerusalem and Rome, and reflects on the role digital technology can play in re-creating aspects of the sensually rich performance of the divine word.

Music Architecture written by Iannis Xenakis and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Music categories.

This important work fills a major lacuna in the literature by bringing together, for the first time, all the texts relating to architecture by the multi-faceted Xenakis, who worked with Le Corbusier for 12 years. Sharon Kanach assisted the composer in gathering the texts for this, his last ambitious project. Her commentary throughout the book seeks to bridge the reciprocal influences between music and architecture in the Xenakis oeuvre. The volume is organized into four main subject headings: The Le Corbusier Years, Xenakis as Independend Architect, Writings on Architecture, and The Poly-topes. Three major appendices comprise: An up-to-date and annotated bibliography of writings by and on Xenakis by Makis Solomos; a critical index of Xeankis' architecture by Sven Sterken; and a comparative chronology of Xenakis's life and work by Sharon Kanach. The Music of Architecture is the first volume in a projected series of critical editions of Xenakis' own writings as well as related scholarly research by others. Three leading Xenakis scholars, Sharon Kanach, Makis Solomos, and Benoit Gibson have commenced this undertaking, in collaboration with the Xenakis family and the BibliothC(que nationale de France in Paris (repository of the Xenakis Archives). Five additional volumes are scheduled to appear in the new Pendragon XENAKIS SERIES. The two volumes already published--"Arts/Sciences: Alloys (1985) and the revised edition of Formalized Music (1992) will find a new home in this series.

This Must Be The Place written by Robert Kronenburg and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-07 with Music categories.

This Must Be The Place is the first architectural history of popular music performance space, describing its beginnings, its different typologies, and its development into a distinctive genre of building design. It examines the design and form of popular music architecture and charts how it has been developed in ad-hoc ways by non-professionals such as building owners, promoters, and the musicians themselves as well as professionally by architects, designers, and construction specialists. With a primary focus on Europe and North America (and excursions to Australia, the Far East and South America), it explores audience experience and how venues have influenced the development of different musical scenes. From music halls and Vaudeville in the 1800s, via the seminal clubs and theatres of the 20th century, to the large-scale multi-million-dollar arena concerts of today, this book explores the impact that the use of private and public space for performance has on our cities' urban identity, and, to a lesser extent, how rural space is perceived and used. Like architecture, popular music is neither static nor standardized; it continuously develops and has multiple strands. This Must Be The Place describes the factors that have determined the development of music venue architecture, focusing on both famous and less well-known examples from the smallest bar room music space to the largest stadium-filling rock set.

It draws on the author’s extensive research expertise in the field of temporary and portable architecture, in the development of general contemporary architectural design, and personal experience of music performance. Including a range of case studies, the book analyses some of the most significant popular music venues, events and landmarks in the world. The detail of how a venue is created, how it is constructed, and the acoustic and visual environmental factors that impact on its success are examined here. Highly illustrated throughout with design drawings, plans and full colour photographs, this book provides a comprehensive overview of the architecture of live popular music.
