Rito Calabrese is what one might call a rough diamond, and I mean this very positively. He has a rustic charm about him. He has a strong work ethic and a big heart. This book encapsulates the real Rito; however, author Paul Heywood-Smith, KC, has also examined the historical truths about the Italian migrants that came to Australia both pre-and post-World War Two.This biography touches upon some of the difficulties encountered by young migrants who left their loved ones, familiar culture, and environment to journey to the other side of the world-an unknown world. But despite the barriers of ethnicity and language, Rito's grit, resilience, and determination made the most of the opportunities. And when there were no opportunities, he made his own.Italians are hard-working and creative. They steadfastly retain their traditions because this way of life helps enrich our community. These qualities have made South Australia the envy of the world because it is an inclusive and diverse culture.I congratulate Mr Heywood-Smith for writing this story about Rito's life. It is a story that needs to be told because, in my view, it will inspire the lives of future generations.Cav. Ted Iuliano, LLB, JP, OAMMagistrateMagistrates' Court of South Australia

The kingdom is threatened. Who or what is ravaging the great forests is unknown. One thing is known. The beasts come from the great mountains in the north; slaughtering everything in their way. Rito Thelin is the second son of the King, who has little time for him. Rito has failed to find his brother, Gallan, lost in the northern woods. Rito is sent out with only one retainer, Quirin, to try again. It is a hopeless task, his death all but assured. He carries one weapon. An ancient sword, named Fury. Nobody can read its ancient runes. If only Rito could. On his journey he will meet Maesa, a young untested sorcerer. Maesa’s spells are prone to error with many an unforeseen consequence. She thinks it’s in the finger twiddles. Rito and Quirin will learn to stand back, with cowering an option. Maesa carries a terrible secret. A stolen spell of such great power it can never be used. Fortunately, she doesn’t know how to use it - yet. Travelling from the west is Wen, an ancient sage, tired of existing beyond his time. He has sensed the evil in the north and is content to find and confront the dangers ahead. Much to his surprise he encounters one of the last wood-elves travelling through the great forests. The elf will fight to her last protecting the trees she loves. Thessalia is her name; as arrogant a being as Wen has ever met. If she ever finds out what secret Wen holds, things might change. Dramatically, and with it her arrogance. They do, and don’t. Two men appear from the western trails. To say they are different in every way possible would be to stretch the meaning of ‘different.’ Tellen is a retired soldier of great experience wanting a quiet life. His companion is a haystack in human form, or so it appears. A giant of a man with phenomenal strength. They compliment each other perfectly. What can go wrong? Unknown to Tellen, Totle has rescued the deadliest predator in the land. A huge animal that somehow moves with silence and speed through the surrounding forests. It has no natural enemies, none at all. But unnatural? These three parties are fated to meet. They must blend together to form a band capable of facing down all dangers. All seems well enough until they find Suneth. A young lost child who needs rescuing. Suneth is sweet and innocent and happily accepted by the travellers. But she is in need of protection at a time when protecting themselves will be hard enough. One of them has seen Suneth dancing in the woods, surrounded by swarms of adoring butterflies. Why? Remains unanswered. None are what they seem. Increasing horrors descend from the north. Some of the travellers may not survive. Why should one of them wish to kill another member of the group, at a time when every living soul is needed? The group will finally reach their final battle. They are asked to do the impossible. Turn around, go home would be the best advice to give. Not for Rito, emerging as their natural leader. But who will follow him?

We Are Not Such Things written by Justine van der Leun and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-28 with True Crime categories.

Justine van der Leun reopens the murder of a young American woman in South Africa, an iconic case that calls into question our understanding of truth and reconciliation, loyalty, justice, race, and class—a gripping investigation in the vein of the podcast Serial “Timely . . . gripping, explosive . . . the kind of obsessive forensic investigation—of the clues, and into the soul of society—that is the legacy of highbrow sleuths from Truman Capote to Janet Malcolm.”—The New York Times Book Review The story of Amy Biehl is well known in South Africa: The twenty-six-year-old white American Fulbright scholar was brutally murdered on August 25, 1993, during the final, fiery days of apartheid by a mob of young black men in a township outside Cape Town. Her parents’ forgiveness of two of her killers became a symbol of the Truth and Reconciliation process in South Africa. Justine van der Leun decided to introduce the story to an American audience. But as she delved into the case, the prevailing narrative started to unravel. Why didn’t the eyewitness reports agree on who killed Amy Biehl? Were the men convicted of the murder actually responsible for her death? And then van der Leun stumbled upon another brutal crime committed on the same day, in the very same area. The true story of Amy Biehl’s death, it turned out, was not only a story of forgiveness but a reflection of the complicated history of a troubled country. We Are Not Such Things is the result of van der Leun’s four-year investigation into this strange, knotted tale of injustice, violence, and compassion. The bizarre twists and turns of this case and its aftermath—and the story that emerges of what happened on that fateful day in 1993 and in the decades that followed—come together in an unsparing account of life in South Africa today. Van der Leun immerses herself in the lives of her subjects and paints a stark, moving portrait of a township and its residents. We come to understand that the issues at the heart of her investigation are universal in scope and powerful in resonance. We Are Not Such Things reveals how reconciliation is impossible without an acknowledgment of the past, a lesson as relevant to America today as to a South Africa still struggling with the long shadow of its history. “A masterpiece of reported nonfiction . . . Justine van der Leun’s account of a South African murder is destined to be a classic.”—Newsday

The American Dream is the ideal that every citizen of the United States should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. And, this is my journey. I was born into a Spanish family in an apartment behind a cantina in a northern New Mexican mountain village. Our ancestors came from the Archuleta region of Spain in the 1500s. I was the oldest son of eight children. You may recognize this part of the country because of Georgia O’Keefe’s famous landscape paintings of the area. She fell in love with the area surrounding my hometown of El Rito. With a tremendous passion for life, a keen mind, strong work ethic, integrity and a spiritual focus, my life has been remarkable, without my having to forget or distance myself from the strong roots of my family and heritage along the way. I’ve been knocked down and have gotten back up countless times. I have survived three near-death experiences, betrayals by both family and friends, unsuccessful runs for Congress and the State Legislature, and the loss of a very successful company. With all that being said, I’ve been able to successfully navigate through it all because of my unwavering faith, courage, hard work, focus, and my strong moral compass. By the Grace of God, I have created scientific discoveries, for which I hold five patents. I have met with Presidents, Senators, Congressmen, members of the U.S. Judiciary, and U.S. Cabinet Secretaries, all in an attempt to bring jobs to rural America. I am grateful to Manuel Lujan, Jr. who was a Congressman for 30 years and the Secretary of the Department of the Interior under President George H.W. Bush, for writing the Foreword to the book. Because this book is filled with stories and insights about my great successes and regrettable failures in business, politics, and as an inventor, my hope is that it would be enjoyed by readers seeking inspiration, entrepreneurs, inventors, people interested in politics, among others. Because I am of Spanish descent, I would hope that it would be enjoyed by readers interested in a poor Hispanic man’s perspective on reaching for the American Dream.

When nations are on the brink of war, to be innocent is not enough... Fifteen years ago, Jehan Fasih designed a drug that could curb the instinct for violence (and rob the taker of their free will). Fifteen minutes ago, someone blew up the metro station to get their hands on his brainchild. Jehan must make a decision, and time is running out. Abhijat Shian and his sister, Rito, lost their jobs, and their family's reputation, over the course of a single week. The reason? Their father's trusted protégé, Jehan Fasih, betrayed him and embroiled their family in one of the biggest corruption scandals the country has ever known. The Shian siblings' quest for revenge soon turns into a murky web of confusing motives and divided loyalties. Is Fasih a genius or a madman? Is their father truly innocent or is there a trail of deceit and betrayal within the hallways of their childhood home? Set in the fictional country of Naijan, The Brightest Fell is a gripping tale of loyalty, treason, corruption, patriotism, and political intrigue.
