When their too-adult lives lead them down self-destructive paths, these broken teens find a way to heal in this YA novel perfect for fans of Ellen Hopkins With her impossible-to-please grandmother on her back about college and her disapproving step-dad watching her every move, Tessa would do anything to escape the pressure-cooker she calls home. So she finds a shot of much-needed power and confidence by hooking up with boys, even though it means cheating on her boyfriend. But when she's finally caught red-handed, she’ll do anything she can to cover up what she's done. Jack is a prankster who bucks the system every chance he gets—each transgression getting riskier and riskier. He loves the thrill, and each adventure allows a little release because his smug smile and suave demeanor in the face of authority doesn’t make life at home with his mom any less tough. He tries to take care of her, but the truth is he's powerless in the face of her fragile mental health. So he copes in his own way, by defacing public property and pulling elaborate pranks, though he knows in the end this’ll only screw up his life even more. As they both try not to let their self-destructive patterns get the best of them, Tessa and Jack gravitate toward one another, discovering the best parts of themselves in the process. An honest portrayal of the urges that drive us and finding the strength to overcome them, Ripple is a stunning debut from a powerful new voice.

Despite what Jo Ann Fuson Staples might tell you, she is no ordinary woman. She has led a remarkable life, full of adventure, love, hardship, and survival. Raised in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky, she comes from a long line of strong mountain folk, those ready to take on adversity and fight for anyone they love, no matter the odds. At only seven, Jo Ann tragically lost her father, and then, when Jo Ann was twenty-four, her mother to brutal violence. Although the pain from those experiences followed Jo Ann for the rest of her life, the bonds she made with her friends and family members only grew stronger, and from there, Jo Ann dove head-first into life. From having a relationship with the prime suspect of the infamous D. B. Cooper skyjacker case to taking on a twenty-six-year journey with her husband on diplomatic assignments to Central and South America, Africa, and the Middle East to surviving a grizzly bear attack, Jo Ann shares it all with humour, grace, and, occasionally, sorrow. Paths I Have Walked is a story of trauma, heartbreak, compassion, true friendship, finding love, and the gift of motherhood. It is a deeply human, compelling, and poignant self-portrait of a resilient woman ready to face life, no matter the odds.

Colton Phillips, a workaholic crime scene investigator with the NYPD, likes to investigate paranormal activities in his spare time, and has spent a lot of that personal time studying visitations from beyond the grave. Having accumulated some vacation time, he visits Pineville, a small town in upstate New York, which has been plagued in the past by mysterious axe murders. It's a case that remained unsolved, as the murders stopped for a long while. While in Pineville, Colton comes upon an old farm house where he finds a hand held mirror with a solid gold back. This mirror reputedly came from Egypt and has been used as a portal to travel back and forth from the spirit world to the material world by those who possessed it. Abruptly, the murders begin again, and the female victims are usually made love to by a beautiful and buxom blonde woman before they're possessed by her and invariably end up murdering their mates. Together with the help of local psychic, Sheri Osmire who has served with the FBI, Colton learns that the murders are being committed by the spirit of Marge Borden, the illegitimate, incestuously fathered daughter of the infamous Lizzie Borden who also joins her daughter in the murderous sprees. Afterwards, they use the mirror as a portal to return to the spirit world. Marge and Lizzy Borden are on a mission to find a way to become immortal and obtain a body of flesh and bones. Colton and Sheri have their work cut out for them as they try to prevent this from happening. Their work together will lead them into many hair raising adventures, including trips to Egypt and The Dead Sea, and also into each other's arms as husband and wife. Colton also learns that Sheri has a kinky side, in that she's bi-sexual and doesn't mind having a couple extra women in their bed together with them. Surprisingly, Colton finds that he doesn't mind this, and eventually he enjoys their sexual escapades with a lesbian couple they encounter during their investigation, who become part of their lives. The lesbian couple, Jody and Alexis, are white witches with psychic gifts of their own that they contribute to helping Colton and Sheri bring an end to Marge and Lizzie's bloody reign of terror.

Their contributions speak practically of their personal beliefs, intimate relationships, and socioeconomic realities. The book explores the intersection between motherhood and other facets of the contributors’ lives, including race, class, sexuality, politics, and personal tragedy. Personal stories include a feminist juggling the roles of activist and mother, a college graduate who applies for welfare so she can remain home with her child, a gay couple’s navigation of the adoption process, and a mother’s celebration of her own vibrant sexuality. This collection of personal narratives will illuminate various female experiences of parenting and humanize a variety of social and economic issues that affect millions of American women and their families.
