With over 400 types of psychotherapy available, ranging from the highly effective to the highly questionable to the downright fraudulent, the task of choosing a therapist can be daunting. Now, Am I Crazy Or Is My Shrink? gives you all the information you need to get the most effective help and to know when your therapy is working--or when it's time for a change. Drawing on years of practical experience and the most up-to-date research, the authors give you expert guidance on all the issues you should consider, whether you're seeking therapy or uncertain about the therapy you're receiving: What questions should I ask my therapist about a recommended treatment? What personal qualities and professional qualifications should I look for in a therapist? What do research studies say about the effectiveness of a particular therapy? How do I recognize when a therapist is not right for me? How can I tell when my therapist's behavior is unethical or unprofessional? What strategies can I use to evaluate my progress? The authors also provide an overview of the main branches of psychotherapy and suggest which approaches are best suited to the most commonly occurring problems, such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, eating disorders, relationship and sexual difficulties, and many others. Finally, the authors stress that because therapies don't come with warning labels, and because a therapist will typically apply his or her theory to whoever walks through the door, regardless of their unique symptoms and circumstances, it is essential to choose your therapist wisely, with as much forethought as possible. Am I Crazy Or Is My Shrink? empowers you to make that choice with confidence and to be a knowledgeable participant in your own treatment.

The availability of practical applications, techniques, and case studies by international therapists is limited despite expansions to the fields of clinical psychology and counseling. As dialogues surrounding mental health grow in the East, it is important to maintain therapeutic modalities that ensure the highest level of patient-centered rehabilitation and care are met across global networks. Multicultural Counseling Applications for Improved Mental Healthcare Services is an essential reference source that discusses techniques in addressing different religions and cultures in counseling and therapy. The research in this publication provides a platform and a voice for Eastern therapists to contribute to the body of knowledge and build a more robust therapeutic framework for practitioners worldwide. Featuring topics such as psychotherapy, refugee counseling, and women empowerment, this book is ideally designed for mental health professionals, counselors, therapists, clinical psychologists, sociologists, social workers, researchers, students, and social science academicians seeking coverage on significant advances in therapy, as well as the skills, challenges, and abilities that practitioners facing diverse populations must manage on a daily basis.

Lectures On Psychology written by Edith Packer Ph D and has been published by Independently Published this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-26 with Psychology categories.

This book began as a series of lectures that I delivered between 1983 and 1994 at the conferences and seminars of my and my husband's organization The Jefferson School of Philosophy, Economics, and Psychology. Subsequent to their delivery, the lectures appeared as a series of pamphlets. At the urging of my husband and others, I have agreed to allow my pamphlets to be put together in the form of a book, in the belief that their content can be of value to readers interested in psychology and psychotherapy. My lectures, now the chapters of this book, cover a variety of topics: The Psychological Requirements of a Free Society, Understanding the Subconscious, Anger, The Obsessive-Compulsive Syndrome, The Art of Introspection, Toward a Lasting Romantic Relationship (in two parts), Happiness Skills, and The Role of Philosophy In Psychotherapy. In addition, the book contains an interview with me concerning my views on psychotherapy. All of my lectures are the product of many years of experience in the practice of psychotherapy, first in New York City and then in southern California. That experience was (and still is) aided by theoretical knowledge derived from a variety of sources. I was initially exposed to many of these in the course of earning a master's degree in personality theory before earning my doctorate in clinical psychology. Among them have been Silvano Arrieti, Leon Salzman, Alfred Adler, and Karen Horney. And, despite many major points on which I strongly disagree with his system, I must include Sigmund Freud, who identified the enormous role of the subconscious mind in human psychology. I also want to acknowledge a major philosophical influence coming from the writings of Ayn Rand.

Out Of My Skull written by James Danckert and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-09 with Science categories.

No one likes to be bored. Two leading psychologists explain what causes boredom and how to listen to what it is telling you, so you can live a more engaged life. We avoid boredom at all costs. It makes us feel restless and agitated. Desperate for something to do, we play games on our phones, retie our shoes, or even count ceiling tiles. And if we escape it this time, eventually it will strike again. But what if we listened to boredom instead of banishing it? Psychologists James Danckert and John Eastwood contend that boredom isn’t bad for us. It’s just that we do a bad job of heeding its guidance. When we’re bored, our minds are telling us that whatever we are doing isn’t working—we’re failing to satisfy our basic psychological need to be engaged and effective. Too many of us respond poorly. We become prone to accidents, risky activities, loneliness, and ennui, and we waste ever more time on technological distractions. But, Danckert and Eastwood argue, we can let boredom have the opposite effect, motivating the change we need. The latest research suggests that an adaptive approach to boredom will help us avoid its troubling effects and, through its reminder to become aware and involved, might lead us to live fuller lives. Out of My Skull combines scientific findings with everyday observations to explain an experience we’d like to ignore, but from which we have a lot to learn. Boredom evolved to help us. It’s time we gave it a chance.
