Treacherous Journey Through The Philippines written by Peter Robinson and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-30 with Fiction categories.

This novel was previously published under the title MY STORY IN THE PHILIPPINES IN FIRST PERSON, which proved to be an awkward title and was rightfully criticized. So I decided to republish the story under a new, more appropriate name, TREACHEROUS JOURNEY THROUGH THE PHILIPPINES, but only after thoroughly editing the wording of the text. Because the story line was recognized as being interesting and flowing, nothing else was changed except for my adding sketches at critical sections. My wife, Nelle, encouraged me to write a novel but passed away in 1992. She always wanted to help. The book may have suffered because she was unable to contribute her clear language. She always contended that in writing fiction, she could invent a story as interesting as one that occurred in real life. I believed her. She certainly was an entertaining conversationalist and had a lighthearted, devilish way of concocting a yarn. The plot for TREACHEROUS takes you to locations actually visited by the author. However, the characters and events are fictional. Larry Bulger is not meant to be Peter Robinson. Larry Bulger jumped headlong into treacherous circumstances. Peter Robinsons nature would be to circumvent the dangers presented by adversaries in the story. Perhaps Larry was a person Peter would like to be. The historical facts, such as Japanese General Yamashita pillaging Southeast Asia for treasure during WWII and hiding portions of the loot in the Philippines, are true but twisted somewhat for the convenience of the plot. The corruption of the Marcos regime is based on commonly repeated rumors that were prevalent at the time.

Though Elsie Reyes Cook has traveled throughout Asia as a missionary, served as a high-profile executive at CBN Asia, while also being sought-after church speaker and counselor-her early beginnings hardly promised such a life of ministry. As a painfully shy, awkward and insecure girl growing up in a humble Philippines provincial household, Elsie often preferred to remain quietly in the shadows. Guided by Romans 8:28 as a life verse, Elsie has experienced amazing aEURoehighsaEUR (success in ministry and academia) as well as aEURoelowsaEUR (attacks from co-workers and physical attacks while in India). The wedding night in Manila was full of promise and Dorothy Dore was prepared to give herself completely to the charming American soldier in the blue uniform. Surely, he stood for duty, honor, and country, just as her father had. However, Sergeant K had a dark secret, which came to the light in a brutal honeymoon attack on her. He promised it would never happen again... "Enemy in My Bed: Triumphs of a Military War Bride" is a tribute to foreign war brides, like Dorothy, who have suffered in silence for the sake of loyalty to their vows and fear of being deported. The author believes that women continue to bear the burdens of abuse caused by addictions and mental disorders because no one is willing to speak up and offer a way out. She knows because she lived it; she escaped it, and survived to tell it all. Dorothy Dore Dowlen immigrated to the United States in 1951 and now resides in San Jose, CA. She is a much sought-after speaker for civic and veterans group functions. Dowlen's first book, Enduring What Cannot Be Endured, published by McFarland Co. Inc. in 2001, is the moving memoir of her WWII years as a teenager on the run from the Japanese and as a medical aide in the jungles of Mindanao, Philippines.

Globaletics And Radicant Aesthetics In Australian Fiction written by Salhia Ben-Messahel and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-23 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book focuses on the issues of space, culture and identity in recent Australian fiction. It discusses the work of 15 authors to show that, in Australia, the meaning of “country” remains critical and cultural belonging is still a difficult process. Interrogating the definition of Australia as a “post-colonial nation” and its underlying extension from Britain, it applies Nicolas Bourriaud’s concept of the Radicant to examine Australian writing beyond the “post” of “post-colonialism”. The book shows that some authors are engaged in writing about the country and the time in which they live, but that they also share common critical views on the definition of multiculturalism, the belonging to place, and integration in the nation. The volume suggests that theories of cultural hybridism presented as a decolonising methodology in fact dissolve singularity in the same way that globalisation creates standardisation. It argues that 21st century Australian fiction depicts the subject as a radicant and that Australian culture constitutes a mobile entity unconnected to any soil.

Trial By Fire written by Kathleen Barnes and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-10 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

At the age of thirty-five, with virtually no major professional contacts, Kathleen Barnes left her marriage and her job as a small-town reporter to become a free-lance foreign correspondent. Within a year and a half she found herself reporting for ABC from inside one of the world's most explosive political hot-beds: the Philippines. What the author discovers-about the true nature of the "People's Power" movement and Corazon Aquino; about violence, corruption, and the potential for peaceful social change; and about herself and her own capacity to withstand untold terrors-becomes in the telling a political expose, a heart-stopping adventure, and a compelling story of a woman's coming of age. Barne's memoir traces the ironic evolution of someone who, after seven years amid poverty, corruption and violence, finds that she cannot return to the complacency of living in freedom and comfort.

My Story written by Roger H. Guichard and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-09 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

My Story tells the tale of one man’s coming to adulthood in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Because of his international focus, the Author had said little about a subject that might interest a reader familiar with his existing body of work, that is, himself. So, he has turned a penetrating gaze from his customary subjects—people and places in the Middle East and South Asia—to a subject that provides context for his earlier books. From family histories of eighteenth-century Cevio in the Swiss Alps and Marseille in Provence; from childhood, youth, adolescence, and early adulthood in the United States; to the Navy and the Vietnam War; from “First Footsteps in the Middle East” to “Timeline,” “Red America,” and “Iran Odyssey,” these chapters play out against the backdrop of the family history now provided. As such, this work represents the capstone to a full career.
