It is convenient to observe the youth group of the Brinta Tournament of 1963/1964, because it would be the start of forthcoming world champions. I was the youth champion of The Netherlands and I also participated in this event. Ton Sijbrands won the tournament with 16 points and had only two draws. I lost to Harm Wiersma and Ton Sijbrands, which was enough for me to tell the whole world that these two players would be future world champions. Ton Sijbrands accomplished this feat in 1972 and 1973. However, the achievements of International Grandmaster Harm Wiersma are better still. He was six times world champion in the years 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981, and 1983- 1984. On the other hand he was Europe's champion in 1999 before Ton Sijbrands! I recommend this book to psycologists and all professionals who work with children as a source of knowledge and a challenge to think in new concepts.

This book should be considered a historical book, as it is the draughts' career of Baba Sy, a prominent Senegalese player. He was able to be the best in the world without reading any books. He had a natural talent and was a self-made man thanks to the game of checkers. I have witnessed the achievements of the great Baba Sy and I have been in the early stage of the great players like Harm Wiersma and Ton Sijbrands, on which I predicted in 1964 that they would be a future world champions. So I know the mentality that one must have to succeed in this mind sport. My 40 year stay in Spain and my research on the Moors permits me to know more about the Islamic custom. And so I am now in a much better position than 40 years ago to comment properly on the life of Baba Sy.

Unexpected Expectations: The Curiosities of a Mathematical Crystal Ball explores how paradoxical challenges involving mathematical expectation often necessitate a reexamination of basic premises. The author takes you through mathematical paradoxes associated with seemingly straightforward applications of mathematical expectation and shows how these unexpected contradictions may push you to reconsider the legitimacy of the applications. The book requires only an understanding of basic algebraic operations and includes supplemental mathematical background in chapter appendices. After a history of probability theory, it introduces the basic laws of probability as well as the definition and applications of mathematical expectation/expected value (E). The remainder of the text covers unexpected results related to mathematical expectation, including: The roles of aversion and risk in rational decision making A class of expected value paradoxes referred to as envelope problems Parrondo’s paradox—how negative (losing) expectations can be combined to give a winning result Problems associated with imperfect recall Non-zero-sum games, such as the game of chicken and the prisoner’s dilemma Newcomb’s paradox—a great philosophical paradox of free will Benford’s law and its use in computer design and fraud detection While useful in areas as diverse as game theory, quantum mechanics, and forensic science, mathematical expectation generates paradoxes that frequently leave questions unanswered yet reveal interesting surprises. Encouraging you to embrace the mysteries of mathematics, this book helps you appreciate the applications of mathematical expectation, "a statistical crystal ball." Chess was a royal game while draughts was played by the seamen and soldiers and known as the "game of the proletariat". Such terms clearly classify the first game as noble and worthwhile and the second as silly or worse. Many people like to speak about the superiority of chess over the draughts. However, "simple" game does not mean "easy" game. In fact, such people only show their ignorance about these two games. Chess is not harder than draughts. The opposite is true - draughts on a 100-square board is more difficult than chess. Draughts is not easier to play well than chess. The game may seem more monotonous or less interesting than chess, but playing it really well is challenging. Any really good draughts player can play blindfolded just as really good chess players do. In this book you will observe the ideas and comments of a lot of chess and draughts players on the question of which game is more difficult - chess or draughts. You will observe that most of them came to the conclusion that draughts is more difficult than chess. It is interesting to observe that Pierre Gestem who was world champion of draughts and bridge and also a very good chess player observed that for him draughts was the most difficult game in the world. Other world champions of draughts and other chess players were of the opinion that draughts on the 100-square board is much harder than chess. Therefore, draughts can no longer be thought of as a simple game due to people's ignorance. On the other hand, the question always arises whether we can compare these two games as they are so different.

The modern game of chess started around 1475 in Spain when the queen and bishop got a much more powerful move. It was called ""Mad Queen Chess."" These new rules quickly spread throughout western Europe and in Spain. The enhanced move for the chess queen started after the coronation of the powerfull queen of Spain Isabella I. The historical records duly note that Queen Isabella I was crowned with the sword of justice raised in front of her, and the sceptre and throne were given to her. This allusion to the real-world event is so clear within the Scachs d'Amor poem to Isabella's actual coronation that the inspiration of Queen Isabella for the new chess queen and powerfull dama of the draughts game is unquestionable. The Spaniards like the Moors, played a game on the board of lines and called it alquerque. The game became modern draughts through being transferred to the chessboard around that time. This book is the result of at least 30 years investigations in the Spanish archives

Jose Raul Capablanca written by Max Euwe and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-14 with categories.

The book of Dutch Grandmasters M. Euwe and L. Prins contains a comprehensive analysis of the great Cuban chess player - the third world champion J. R. Capablanca. The authors knew their hero personally, and one of them - Max Euwe - played a match with him and many tournament games. The work about Capablanca with such a volume - almost 200 games, about a quarter of them are analyzed in detail, will be a great value.Without falling under the charm of a Cuban chess player, which would be quite forgivable, the authors give him an objective assessment both in chess and in human terms. This, in my opinion, is especially valuable, as, in many previously published books about the world champion, such an evaluation was somewhat idealized.A separate chapter includes Capablanca's famous "Small Combinations" and examples of his Endgame art. Revealing the myth of the "chess machine" (an epithet that Capablanca was often awarded by his contemporaries). M. Euwe and L. Prince explain the true reasons behind Capablanca's conquest of the chess throne in 1921, his defeat in the 1927 match against Alekhine, and the later tournament successes. The authors pay special attention to his style and to his chess technique that was on a high level. These sections are undoubtedly useful to study for qualified chess players. However, I am sure that all chess enthusiasts will find in the book many interesting and instructive lessons.

The World Chess Championship 1951 Botvinnik V Bronstein written by William Winter and has been published by Ishi Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02 with Games categories.

The 1951 match for the World Chess Championship was exceptionally hard fought. Each player won 5 games and the remaining 14 games were drawn. The match ended in a 12-12 tie and, under the rules, the champion, Botvinnik, retained his title. A new appendix has been added to the end of this book with all the games converted to Algebraic notation and the concluded diagram for each game. Rumors that have persisted that Bronstein was forced to resign that match by some higher political authority resulted in a book and a movie that depicted the supposed event. The book and movie is "From Russia with Love" by Ian Fleming. It is part of the long running James Bond Agent 007 Series. Kronsteen, unlike the real life David Bronstein, is given the assignment of planning the murder of James Bond, who has been giving the Soviets trouble for a long time. This ultimately leads to the death of Kronsteen in the movie, unlike Bronstein who obeyed the order and thus was allowed to live to a ripe old age. According to the plan worked out by Kronsteen, a beautiful Russian girl would be sent as a lure to James Bond. While this plot line may seem ridiculous, it was not entirely untrue. The Soviets did in reality use beautiful women as bait to entrap Americans, as was the case of a real spy the Russians sent to us recently, Anna Chapman.
