In 2016 and 2017, in response to small attacks by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, Myanmar’s armed forces launched “area clearance operations” against the Rohingya minority in Rakhine State—a response the U.S. government has called ethnic cleansing. This report explores the structure, training, and ethos of Myanmar’s armed forces to clarify the implications and challenges of, and the prospects for, finding constructive ways forward as well as an accounting for the past. Drawing on an in-depth review of the literature, extensive field experience, and interviews, the report is published by the United States Institute of Peace. Myanmar’s military leaders have long been haunted by the prospect that one day they may lose the power to control events and be brought before a court to account for their actions, and those of their subordinates. Abstract: The violence against the Rohingya, which has led hundreds of thousands of Rohingya to seek refuge in Bangladesh, has severely damaged Myanmar's international image. In response to the deterioration of the human rights situation in Myanmar in October 2018, the European Union (EU) threatened to withdraw the trade preferences that ensure the country has duty-free access to the EU common market. It seems highly plausible, however, that such measures would fail to alter the political calculations of the Burmese government or of the military. Instead, a withdrawal of the trade preferences would primarily hit the mostly female workers in the country's textile industry. The EU and its Member States should therefore consider a combination of specific sanctions against military enterprises as well as tightened entry bans and account freezes that are directed at leading military personnel. These targeted sanctions against Myanmar's armed forces should be flanked by an increase in the level

Bangladesh is the most vulnerable country to face the Rohingya crisis since the late 1970s and it is a continuous disturbing issue between Bangladesh and Myanmar that affecting their bilateral relations. But, in 2017, the last persecution against the Rohingyas in Myanmar have forced more than half a million people to flee into Bangladesh who are still living here creating various problems for the local community as well as for the whole country. This chapter aims to focus on the socio-political impacts of Rohingya crisis on Bangladesh as now more than one million Rohingya people are staying in the refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar district and also as unregistered refugees. This study analyzes secondary sources by using qualitative method to present different social and political impacts of this long-standing crisis on Bangladesh such as increasing of trafficking, criminal activities, prostitution and other illegitimate works in the local areas which have a bad impact on the whole country. It also analyzes the recent vulnerable situation of local host communities regarding this crisis.
