The fourth volume of the “Mythology and Folklore” series, the outcome of the debates held within the international conference on Mythology and Folklore organized with the support of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bucharest, adhere to the tripartite structure of the previous volumes: I. Myth, Mythocritique. Archetypes. Symbols; II. Mythological Reverberations. Reinterpretation of Myth: Revitalization, Demythization, Remythization. Socializing Myths; III. Folklore. Folkloric Archetypes. Folkloric Reverberations. To conclude, the 4th volume of the “Mythology and Folklore” series dwells on studies and debates regarding notions such as theatricality, socio-cultural and religious context, foregrounding various ways in which some archaic myths and rites have survived and withstood the test of time. Likewise, notions such as alterity, power, hierophany or superstition identified in myths and ancient beliefs speak of the process of development, horizontally, of inter-human relations, and, vertically, of a parallel process of awareness of the transcendental relationship between man and divinity. The present volume insists on the policies derived from the social ideas generated by myths, the updating of myths as an arsenal of social pedagogy, on the ethnic condition of the relevance of myths, but also on the resumption by mass media of the pejorative sense of the myth. This volume is part of the scientific series “Mythology and Folklore”.

FORGOTTEN TREASURES WAIT FOR REDISCOVERY IN THE CULTURAL RELIGIOUS SYMBOLISM IN THE BIBLE. God used symbolic patterns in the Bible to communicate His truth and plans for humanity. These little-known patterns in the Bible have continued through time and spread around the world. This exploration of myths, symbols, and rituals shows how they are all related and reveals what the patterns show about God's plan through Christ. Dr. Eric Odell-Hein brings a unique approach to understanding biblical symbolism, backed by academic expertise and biblical orthodoxy. Personal stories illustrate each point. Discover: - The universal pattern to religious symbolism - How the Bible points to Christ through use of this pattern - How Christ is the superior, literal fulfillment of all mythical patterns.

Revelation And Divination In Ndembu Ritual written by Victor Turner and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-31 with Social Science categories.

Drawing on two and a half years of field work, Victor Turner offers two thorough ethnographic studies of Ndembu revelatory ritual and divinatory techniques, with running commentaries on symbolism by a variety of Ndembu informants. Although previously published, these essays have not been readily available since their appearance more than a dozen years ago. Striking a personal note in a new introductory chapter, Professor Turner acknowledges his indebtedness to Ndembu ritualists for alerting him to the theoretical relevance of symbolic action in understanding human societies. He believes that ritual symbols, like botanists' stains, enable us to detect and trace the movement of social processes and relationships that often lie below the level of direct observation.

"The main thrust of this book is to deliver a major critique of materialist and rationalist explanations of social and cultural forms, but the in the process Sahlins has given us a much stronger statement of the centrality of symbols in human affairs than have many of our 'practicing' symbolic anthropologists. He demonstrates that symbols enter all phases of social life: those which we tend to regard as strictly pragmatic, or based on concerns with material need or advantage, as well as those which we tend to view as purely symbolic, such as ideology, ritual, myth, moral codes, and the like. . . ."—Robert McKinley, Reviews in Anthropology

Sacred Weapons Profane Enemies Saint John Paul Ii S War On Communism written by Geoff Bardell and has been published by Lulu.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-13 with History categories.

The 2014 canonization of John Paul II and the quarter-century anniversary of the fall of Polish Communism were the main motivations in writing this book, which is richly illustrated with nearly 100 pictures and very reasonably priced! The book tells the story of how Saint John Paul II politically deployed sacred weapons and profane enemies in his war on communism. The effects of his deployment - chiefly during his three pilgrimages to communist Poland - were to evoke and refashion nationalist and religious cultural memories shaped over centuries and thereby influence the prevailing political culture of opposition. In his doing so, the Polish Pope inspired the opposition to peacefully and successfully challenge a communist regime that had at its disposal a full panoply of repressive forces.
