ABOUT THE BOOK Despite the adoption of policies to combat sexual harassment on university campuses across Africa, a strong patriarchal tradition, combined with weak institutional frameworks, has resulted in a culture where too often, male lecturers view female students as 'fringe benefits' and trade sex as a currency for awarding academic grades. 'NAKED ABUSE' addresses the menace of sex for grades and provides a worrisome account of cases of sexual predators across the continent. The accompanying report of interventions made by critical stakeholders at a Webinar on how to create safe spaces for female students in Nigerian Universities highlights the challenges of transactional sex on African campuses. *************************************FROM THE BOOK COVER The author, writes Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, "has, in a few pages, done an excellent job of not just confronting us with the key issues in the sordid situations of sex for grades on the African Continent but he has also made several important suggestions on what to do and how to solve the problem." *************************************ABOUT THE AUTHOR Journalist, writer and former presidential spokesman, Olusegun Adeniyi, is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL). He is the author of several books, including 'From Frying Pan to Fire: How African Migrants Risk Everything in their Futile Search for a Better Life in Europe' and holds a first degree in International Relations and a master's degree in International Law and Diplomacy (MILD). Adeniyi has participated in numerous professional and academic programs. Notably, in July 2007, he attended the International Visitor Leadership Program organised by the US State Department in Washington, DC. He spent the 2010/2011 academic session as a Fellow at the Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs, Harvard University where he conducted research on the factors that shape incumbent presidential elections in Africa. He is one of five African council members of the (Chinese) Belt and Road News Network (BRNN).

In 1946, the poet Earle Birney, then an English professor at the University of British Columbia, broke new ground by establishing a single course within the English department, one for the writer “naked in academe.” He went on to found the UBC Creative Writing Department in 1963 – Canada’s first university writing program, a learner-centered, interdisciplinary experience that has produced many of Canada’s finest writers and poets. Celebrating fifty years of creative writing at UBC, Naked in Academe showcases an impressive diversity of literary voices that have grown out of the program. From short stories to poetry, narrative essays to scripts for theatre and film, herein is a dynamic collection of writing from across Canada that, like the program itself, is at once contemporary and vibrant, relevant and incisive.

Teaching Naked written by José Antonio Bowen and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-07-03 with Education categories.

You've heard about "flipping your classroom"—now find out how to do it! Introducing a new way to think about higher education, learning, and technology that prioritizes the benefits of the human dimension. José Bowen recognizes that technology is profoundly changing education and that if students are going to continue to pay enormous sums for campus classes, colleges will need to provide more than what can be found online and maximize "naked" face-to-face contact with faculty. Here, he illustrates how technology is most powerfully used outside the classroom, and, when used effectively, how it can ensure that students arrive to class more prepared for meaningful interaction with faculty. Bowen offers practical advice for faculty and administrators on how to engage students with new technology while restructuring classes into more active learning environments.

Academic Instincts written by Marjorie Garber and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-10 with Literary Criticism categories.

In this lively and provocative book, cultural critic Marjorie Garber, who has written on topics as different as Shakespeare, dogs, cross-dressing, and real estate, explores the pleasures and pitfalls of the academic life. Academic Instincts discusses three of the perennial issues that have surfaced in recent debates about the humanities: the relation between "amateurs" and "professionals," the relation between one academic discipline and another, and the relation between "jargon" and "plain language." Rather than merely taking sides, the book explores the ways in which such debates are essential to intellectual life. Garber argues that the very things deplored or defended in discussions of the humanities cannot be either eliminated or endorsed because the discussion itself is what gives humanistic thought its vitality. Written in spirited and vivid prose, and full of telling detail drawn both from the history of scholarship and from the daily press, Academic Instincts is a book by a well-known Shakespeare scholar and prize-winning teacher who offers analysis rather than polemic to explain why today's teachers and scholars are at once breaking new ground and treading familiar paths. It opens the door to an important nationwide and worldwide conversation about the reorganization of knowledge and the categories in and through which we teach the humanities. And it does so in a spirit both generous and optimistic about the present and the future of these disciplines.
