Corridor O written by Paul Seifert and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-11-30 with Fiction categories.

Corridor O was a suite of rooms in an aging hospital that no longer exists. The novel is a brutal work, in the sense that death from malignant disease is brutal. The book has, however, a mesmerizing yet macabre beauty. The march of cancer cells across the field of a microscope can have the vibrant radiance of a stained glass window. In the beginning of the story, Jack Fleming,M.D. immerses himself in his work as a clinical oncologist. He is able to tolerate the pain and suffering afflicting his patients by keeping intellectual distance from them. But then Dr. Fleming himself develops an illness. During his convalescence, he is forced to confront the reality of what is happening to his patients on Corridor O.Dr. Fleming attempts to find some theological or philosophical justification for the events depicted in this book. Unable to make a leap into faith, Fleming is consumed by the despair he is forced to witness.Corridor O leads to conclusions perhaps difficult to accept. The taste of the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil can leave a bitter taste indeed.Jack Fleming was a talented young physician who ventured too far into the darkness. Only the sympathetic reader can decide if his story deserves to be told.

The Public International Law Study Guide For Students written by Cristina Verones and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-18 with Law categories.

A sound understanding of public international law is indispensable for any lawyer, whether working in an international or domestic context. It is therefore important that students have a thorough theoretical understanding of international law issues, and are able to apply the relevant international legal rules to a given set of facts, so as to arrive at a legally coherent conclusion. This practical aspect of learning international law is often neglected in favour of more theoretical aspects - which is where this book comes in. The book offers a series of hypothetical practical cases in public international law, including some of its specialised branches, such as international human rights law and international criminal law. It challenges students to practise and familiarise themselves with the methodology and to write solutions to practical international legal questions. The book is in two parts: part one contains practical (exam-like) questions, while part two contains the solutions. The practical questions in part one are organised by subject, such as treaty law or state responsibility. One chapter is dedicated to more complex 'interconnected' cases, where students are asked to tackle problems which span multiple potential cases and topics. ENDORSEMENT 'An extremely interesting and innovative text that students studying Public International Law should find invaluable.' Associate Professor Joanne Sellick Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning, University of Plymouth

Au Revoir To All That written by Michael Steinberger and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-01 with Cooking categories.

Au Revoir to All That takes us on an entertaining and intriguing journey into France's identity, directly through the tastebuds... Offering a fresh and entertaining approach to understanding French history, through its food and wine, Steinberger reveals a radically changing France; a country moving through social and political reform, economic crises and, importantly, the loss of their seemingly unbreakable dominance in all things gastronomical. If the state of France's celebrated cuisine is the bellwether for the state of the nation, things are looking bleak. Top chefs are renouncing their Michelin stars and prized farmhouse cheeses are going extinct because there is no one to make them. Bistros, brasseries and cafés fold by the scores and hypermarkets and superstores account for 75% of retail food sales. The famed wine-producing Languedoc is home to the world's first wine-terrorist organization - winemakers resorting to violence to protect their struggling industry. But while there may be better baguettes in Tokyo than in Paris, and Spain has become the darling of the gastronomic world, there are glimpses of hope. There are up-and-coming culinary stars and outdoor food festivals, pockets of exuberance amid the gloom. And, as long as a praline millefeuille can be celebrated, savoured and allowed to assume talismanic qualities at a Right Bank tea salon, all is not lost. Au Revoir to All That is an essential - almost edible - book for lovers of food, France and culinary history.
