The Rhetoric Of Dreams written by Bert O. States and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-15 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

In this lively and provocative book, Bert O. States offers a new theory of the nature and function of dreaming, in the process challenging the Freudian theory of repression. The Rhetoric of Dreams asserts that the dream operates quite differently from the mechanism of repression as it is envisioned by most psychoanalysts. Far from censoring unacceptable thought, States says, the dream is one of the most direct of psychic functions, processing experience in patterns of association that contribute to our survival in waking reality. He thus regards the dream as a means by which the mind "thinks" images out of feelings and attitudes and then converts those images into other images along the path of the dream narrative.

Vygotsky And The Social Formation Of Mind written by James V. Wertsch and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988-10-15 with Psychology categories.

In a book of intellectual breadth, James Wertsch not only offers a synthesis and critique of all Vygotsky’s major ideas, but also presents a program for using Vygotskian theory as a guide to contemporary research in the social sciences and humanities. He draws extensively on all Vygotsky’s works, both in Russian and in English, as well as on his own studies in the Soviet Union with colleagues and students of Vygotsky. Vygotsky’s writings are an enormously rich source of ideas for those who seek an account of the mind as it relates to the social and physical world. Wertsch explores three central themes that run through Vygotsky’s work: his insistence on using genetic, or developmental, analysis; his claim that higher mental functioning in the individual has social origins; and his beliefs about the role of tools and signs in human social and psychological activity Wertsch demonstrates how the notion of semiotic mediation is essential to understanding Vygotsky’s unique contribution to the study of human consciousness. In the last four chapters Wertsch extends Vygotsky’s claims in light of recent research in linguistics, semiotics, and literary theory. The focus on semiotic phenomena, especially human language, enables him to integrate findings from the wide variety of disciplines with which Vygotsky was concerned Wertsch shows how Vygotsky’s approach provides a principled way to link the various strands of human science that seem more isolated than ever today.

It Chooses You written by Miranda July and has been published by Canongate Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-01 with Photography categories.

In the summer of 2009, Miranda July was struggling to finish writing the screenplay for her much-anticipated second film. During her increasingly long lunch breaks, she began to obsessively read the PennySaver, the iconic classifieds booklet that reached everywhere and seemed to come from nowhere. Who was the person selling the "Large leather Jacket, $10"? It seemed important to find out - or at least it was a great distraction from the screenplay. Accompanied by photographer Brigitte Sire, July crisscrossed Los Angeles to meet a random selection of PennySaver sellers, glimpsing thirteen surprisingly moving and profoundly specific realities, along the way shaping her film, and herself, in unexpected ways. Elegantly blending narrative, interviews, and photographs with July's off-kilter honesty and deadpan humour, this is a story of procrastination and inspiration, isolation and connection, and grabbing hold of the invisible world.
