In this thesis, I examine how vision functions in Kate Chopin's The Awakening. Vision, as it is used here, refers to an individual's perspective and their view of the world, not just physical sight. Ultimately, I argue that Edna's narcissistic vision keeps her from being able to see beyond her present state and conceive of a future for herself, which leads to her suicide.

Merriam-Webster's online dictionary defines Tunnel Vision as "a tendency to think only about one thing and to ignore everything else around you." I heard the term for the first time many years ago when my mentor, Mellisa Precious Lee, sought to explain the importance of having Tunnel Vision in one's relationship with GOD. Tunnel Vision for GOD requires Intense Focus in every area of our spiritual lives and a Militant mindset towards serving HIM and doing HIS will. With this discipline, we can be assured of a victorious life in CHRIST. In our increasingly distracting world, maintaining absolute and intense focus is not an easy task. Very often, Christians, surrounded by the enemy's temptations, are hard-pressed to survive. When I think about fellow Christians today, I immediately think of the words Spiritual Survival. Before we can reflect CHRIST in our endeavours and motivate others to walk in HIS Word, we must be able to ward off and withstand distractions ourselves. The Christian life is a great test and we must survive spiritually in order to pass that test. When we are placed on this earth in GOD'S university we are HIS students, HIS Word is our textbook and temptations are our daily test. Continuing with this analogy, our stationery must be prepared, for it is in our words and deeds that we write our stories, and as Christians our stories must be well-written with sharp discipline and a clear focus, if we are to graduate with top honors. Of course, as mankind, we are all imperfect and our journey through life is filled with lessons taught through mistakes and mentors. As a growing Christian, I have learnt so much in my journey, I'm excited to share my journey with you. Of course, I'm assuming that you're a believer in the LORD JESUS CHRIST. If you are, you must remain focused if you want to keep your fire for CHRIST burning bright. I have seen too many flames initially spark with potential and then waver and dim after a very short period. As children of GOD we must strive at all times to reflect HIS Word. If you are not a believer, I want to encourage you to get to know JESUS. Once you get to know GOD personally, surrendering your life to HIM will be the next natural step. Remember, our time on this earth is short, and the pleasures offered by the world transient, but our walk with GOD can be eternal. The path we walk all depends upon the choices we make. So you can choose God's precious gems or you can choose to live only in the moment, gambling your eternal inheritance for the cheap baubles of this world. For me, the choice is plain. When I became a Christian, I saw myself almost being fast forwarded by the HOLY SPIRIT. HE was always with me. Before I got saved, I focused primarily on myself, my abilities and on my journey to greatness as a footballer, but as soon as I had a personal encounter with JESUS, HE became my primary focus. The second chapter of this book talks about understanding our identity in CHRIST which is crucial in living A Set Apart Life. Once we fall in love with JESUS, everything else in our lives will be in alignment. To my brothers and sisters in CHRIST, my prayer is that you learn to stand strong spiritually, prepared to face all the trials and temptations that will come your way as a young believer. I also pray that you always make the right choices, resisting the devil and growing into all that GOD would have you to be. Know that you are never alone. GOD is always with you. HE has already gone before you and has prepared a path that HE desires for you to take. Don't leave HIM because HE will never leave you or forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

In an effort to keep up with a world of too much, life hackers sometimes risk going too far. Life hackers track and analyze the food they eat, the hours they sleep, the money they spend, and how they're feeling on any given day. They share tips on the most efficient ways to tie shoelaces and load the dishwasher; they employ a tomato-shaped kitchen timer as a time-management tool. They see everything as a system composed of parts that can be decomposed and recomposed, with algorithmic rules that can be understood, optimized, and subverted. In Hacking Life, Joseph Reagle examines these attempts to systematize living and finds that they are the latest in a long series of self-improvement methods. Life hacking, he writes, is self-help for the digital age's creative class. Reagle chronicles the history of life hacking, from Benjamin Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanack through Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Timothy Ferriss's The 4-Hour Workweek. He describes personal outsourcing, polyphasic sleep, the quantified self movement, and hacks for pickup artists. Life hacks can be useful, useless, and sometimes harmful (for example, if you treat others as cogs in your machine). Life hacks have strengths and weaknesses, which are sometimes like two sides of a coin: being efficient is not the same thing as being effective; being precious about minimalism does not mean you are living life unfettered; and compulsively checking your vital signs is its own sort of illness. With Hacking Life, Reagle sheds light on a question even non-hackers ponder: what does it mean to live a good life in the new millennium?

“Vivid prose plunges the reader into the politically fraught, self-contained world of a military base” and a chilling true case of triple murder (Linda Landrigan, editor of Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine). Carlton “Butch” Smith was a troubled teenager who’d been kicked out of school for aggressive behavior. His parents lived at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and when Butch was home with them, his life was fairly normal. But that all changed on August, 24, 1981, when Butch’s sister, aunt, and cousin were found slain in his parents’ house. It was a horrifying crime that shook the Marine base community, not to mention the Smith family—especially when Butch was named the prime suspect. In Tunnel Vision, reporter and true crime author N. P. Simpson delves into this young man’s harrowing past. She also provides a detailed chronicle of the grisly murders and the complex case that followed—a case of conflicting confessions, a mysterious second suspect who was never found, and difficult questions of jurisdiction between military, state, and federal courts.

On Not Being Someone Else written by Andrew H. Miller and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-09 with Philosophy categories.

A captivating book about the emotional and literary power of the lives we might have lived had our chances or choices been different. We each live one life, formed by paths taken and untaken. Choosing a job, getting married, deciding on a place to live or whether to have children—every decision precludes another. But what if you’d gone the other way? It can be a seductive thought, even a haunting one. Andrew H. Miller illuminates this theme of modern culture: the allure of the alternate self. From Robert Frost to Sharon Olds, Virginia Woolf to Ian McEwan, Jane Hirshfield to Carl Dennis, storytellers of every stripe write of the lives we didn’t have. What forces encourage us to think this way about ourselves, and to identify with fictional and poetic voices speaking from the shadows of what might have been? Not only poets and novelists, but psychologists and philosophers have much to say on this question. Miller finds wisdom in all these sources, revealing the beauty, the power, and the struggle of our unled lives. In an elegant and provocative rumination, he lingers with other selves, listening to what they say. Peering down the path not taken can be frightening, but it has its rewards. On Not Being Someone Else offers the balm that when we confront our imaginary selves, we discover who we are.
