Foundations Of Sensation And Perception written by George Mather and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-30 with Psychology categories.

Foundations of Sensation and Perception offers a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the science of sensation and perception. It covers all the human senses and answers many questions, such as why movies are so convincing, how ventriloquism works, why things sound different as you get older and why you may feel ill in an aircraft or sea vessel. Full of illustrations and graphs that bring concepts to life, the textbook covers vision, hearing, balance, touch, pain, smell and taste. It discusses each sensory system through its fundamental neuroscience, major perceptual qualities and underlying coding principles. Each chapter includes reflective questions, key terms and information boxes and chapter summaries. Each chapter ends with a tutorial section which introduces more advanced areas of study in an accessible way (including measurement of light and Fourier analysis) as well as topics outside of the mainstream of sensation (including music perception, colour deficiencies and phantom limbs). The fourth edition of this bestselling textbook includes an extensive update of the text to reflect the latest research, a greater focus on balance and the body senses and a major reorganisation of the chapters for ease of use. It will be an invaluable resource for a wide range of undergraduate students in psychology, neuroscience and related disciplines.

Vision Models For Target Detection And Recognition written by Eli Peli and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book is an international collection of contributions from academia, industry and the armed forces. It addresses current and emerging Spatial Vision Models and their application to the understanding, prediction and evaluation of the tasks of target detection and recognition. The discussion in many of the chapters is framed in terms of military targets and military vision aids. However, the techniques analyses and problems are by no means limited to this area of application. The detection and recognition of an armored vehicle from a reconnaissance image are performed by the same visual system used to detect and recognize a tumor in an X-ray. The analysis of the interaction of the human visual system with night vision devices is not different from the analysis needed in the case of an operator examining structures using a remote (endoscopic) camera, etc. The book is organized into three general sections. The first covers basic modeling of central (foveal) vision and its theoretical background. The second is centered on the evaluation of model performance in applications, while the third is dedicated to aspects of peripheral vision modeling and the expansion of peripheral modeling to include visual search.

Spatial Vision written by Russell L. DeValois and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-08-09 with Psychology categories.

This volume presents an integrated view of how we perceive the spatial relations in our visual world, covering anatomical, physiological, psychophysical, and perceptual aspects. The authors discuss the visual system primarily in terms of spatial frequency analysis using a linear systems approach. They review evidence supporting a local, patch-by-patch spatial frequency filtering of visual information rather than the global Fourier analysis other researchers have proposed. A separate chapter addresses the special issues surrounding color vision, and a brief, nonmathematical introduction to linear systems analysis is included for the uninitiated reader.

Spatial Filtering And Mechanisms Of Perception written by Arthur P. Ginsburg and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1979 with categories.

Attempts have been made to distinguish between visual mechanisms as being space domain feature detectors or transform domain spatial frequency detectors. Those descriptions can be considered equivalent in terms of producing similar filtered images. However, Fourier-like transformation appears to be a more accurate description of the filtering process when biological data is considered. The two-dimensional discrete Fourier transform is a process that requires the input object to be multiplied by a bank of even symmetric cosinusoidal and odd symmetric sinusoidal space functions having periodicity. The periodicity corresponds to the number of cycles per receptive field width. The weighting function of the periodicity is alternating positive and negative values. These properties were related to the properties of cortical receptive fields. Certain receptive fields may functionally perform a generalized periodic analysis for spatial vision. Since these functions are two-dimensional, they are sensitive to orientation, similar to cortical receptive fields. Therefore, it was argued that the visual system contains mechanisms that can process spatial information consistent with the mathematical process of a two-dimensional discrete Fourier-like transform. This analysis of the filtering process of certain visual cortical mechanisms may lead to further understanding into visual perception.
