"In seinem Sessel behaglich dumm, sitzt schweigend das deutsche Publikum", schrieb einst Karl Marx. Auch die deutsche Linke hat es sich in den vergangenen 30 Jahren in Parlamenten, Gewerkschaften und NGOs gemütlich gemacht, meint der ostdeutsche Historiker Sven Brajer. Während immer größere Vermögen blanko vererbt, der Mittelstand zerstört, Zombiefirmen mit Steuergeldern aufgepäppelt und die Meinungsfreiheit mehr und mehr eingeschränkt werden, ist von der (parlamentarischen) Linken nicht viel zu hören. Seit dem Zusammenbruch der Sowjetunion hat die deutsche Linke eine enorme Transformationsleistung hingelegt. Von antiimperialistischen, antiautoritär-libertären und antikapitalistischen sozialen Strömungen ist bis auf wenige Ausnahmen kaum etwas übriggeblieben. Eine einstmals linke Bewegung ist kulturell im woken Establishment und politisch in der marktkonformen, also der "bürgerlich-parlamentarischen Demokratie" angekommen. Sie spielt auf der Klaviatur einer transatlantischen Propagandamaschinerie, bestehend aus "nachhaltigem" Konsum, digitaler Massenverblödung und bürokratischem Anstaltsstaat mit leicht sozialem Touch. Zunehmend werden Feindbilder gezeichnet und jede/r, die/der dabei nicht mitmacht, wird ignoriert oder per Shitstorm zum Opfer einer sich ausbreitenden Cancel Culture gemacht. Das Diktum von der Freiheit, die immer auch die Freiheit der Andersdenkenden ist (Rosa Luxemburg) sowie Kritik am Überwachungskapitalismus sind vergessen, es zählt nur noch der Machterhalt, eingerahmt von einem totalitären Moralismus. Die Linke ist selbst Teil dessen geworden, was sie eigentlich bekämpfen wollte. Wie konnte es nur so weit kommen?
