It is friction between black and White That is the cause of the segregation; And my cabinet thinks it is right That is my view on the situation; And that is the best thought of the administra tion. The white people admire the progress of your race. Still there is great prejudice in the people's minds. Segregation is a benefit and not a humiliation, And I prefer they progress on independent lines. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Black Man, or the Natural History of the Hametic Race It must be remembered, however, that there is a chap ter in the history of the race, at least in this country, which carries us through the dark period of human slavery that can never be read without much pain and many anxieties This fact is to be regretted, and yet the rise and marked progress and wonderful development of the race cannot be properly spoken of unless some thing is said about former slaves and their old masters. Turn where you will or may and history does not furnish a parallel to the case in hand. The destruction of the comer-stone of slavery in 1863 was the beginning of the marvelous temporal prosperity of this nation, that is, the American people. While slavery existed in the several States, the nation, like a partly starved giant, under an appalling cloud, manifested signs of paralysis, which left it in the awful throes of death, as it were. And smarting under the oft-repeated stings of a deep remorse of a relentless cou science, it eked out an existence which reflected no glory, but unmeasured disgrace upon the deflected ethics of its government, until the emancipation of the slaves was consummated. The Negro Races Vol 1 written by Jerome Dowd and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-09 with Social Science categories.

Excerpt from The Negro Races, Vol. 1: A Sociological Study The author submits to the public this volume as one of a series which he proposes to publish consisting of a sociological study of mankind from the standpoint of race. Up to the present time sociologists, in tracing the evolution of society, have constructed theories based upon data selected promiscuously from opposite quarters of the earth and from many different races. This method would suffice if the races of men had lived in the same environment and had undergone the same stages of development But it will not suffice if the races have appeared upon the earth in succession and not simultaneously. If they have inhabited different zones and have been subject to different physical surroundings, it does not stand to reason that they could develop the same institutions and pass through identical stages of evolution. The author's first object, therefore, is to establish the fact that each race has its distinctive institutions and special evolution corresponding to the locality in which it lives or has lived. The second object is to discover the factors and laws which explain the mental and moral characteristics and particular institutions of each general racial division, to the end that the principles and laws discovered may be applied to whatever is abnormal or retrogressive. If the first few volumes of the series should seem to lay stress upon the physical environment, it is because that factor is always predominant in the early stage of development, and only diminishes gradually as man strengthens his intellect and adds to his knowledge.
