Dans les voyages extraordinaires, qui regroupent la plus grande partie de la production vernienne, la nature et l'homme ne cessent d’évoluer ensemble et se mêlent le plus souvent. L'homme s'installe plus ou moins longuement en son sein et essaye de la connaître toujours mieux grâce aux multiples moyens de communication. En outre, il n'est pas rare qu'il tente d'imiter la puissance naturelle en reproduisant quelques phénomènes dont elle seule a le secret. Toutefois, quelle que soit sa forme, cette construction doit avant tout respecter son environnement et si tel n'est pas le cas, la destruction est l'issue inéluctable
