A trained hunter finds himself on an interplanetary run in Jimm Grogan's thrilling debut novel, Negative Zero. Tomek lives a seemingly quiet life as a spacecraft engineer for the interstellar Azten Empire of Federated Worlds. No one knows, however, that during Tomek's frequent "vacations," he volunteers for his planet's police force, tracking down convicted criminals and delivering them to justice. Known for taking on cases that no other volunteer will touch, Tomek uses the code name "Negative Zero" in order to protect himself and those he loves. Tomek takes on the investigation of a lifetime when he tracks down those responsible for two major crimes: one in which thousands of farmers die of a suspected plague, and another in which the mass murderer uses a mysterious drug to force victims to hand over their wealth before dying. As Tomek unravels the mystery behind those responsible, he is confident that they will be brought to justice. But the sinister Trident group has other plans in mind when they eventually find out who Negative Zero really is. As they close in on his location, using corrupt imperial guards as their henchman, Tomek must fight for his life if he is to survive.

If you thought death was the end...you'd be dead wrong. Life was barely manageable after my mom was murdered three years ago. I wasn't sure what my purpose was anymore. But then on my twenty-first birthday, I drank a little too much and fell from the roof of my nine-story apartment building. I died. Then... I un-died. Enter Hayden, my really bossy (and hot) guardian angel whose duty is to train me to be the next "Soldier of Light." Sound fun? Well, it's not. I save dead people, helping them move on to the World of Light. And to make matters even worse, they are all troubled souls stuck in the Dark Realm with the devil and his army of demonic creatures. They roam my city's streets at night, waiting for me to screw up. The Afterlife is one of Death's best kept secrets, and I'm living proof. I'm pretty sure I'm the wrong person for this job, despite what Hayden thinks. Guess I'm stuck saving the dead. *** "Paranormal elements, action, drama, friendship, struggles, mystery, life and death, romance....all put together nicely, and driven by a strong female MC." "An absolute must-read for fans of novels such as "Hush, Hush," and "Twilight."

Computer Systems Architecture written by Aharon Yadin and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-19 with Computers categories.

Computer Systems Architecture provides IT professionals and students with the necessary understanding of computer hardware. It addresses the ongoing issues related to computer hardware and discusses the solutions supplied by the industry. The book describes trends in computing solutions that led to the current available infrastructures, tracing the initial need for computers to recent concepts such as the Internet of Things. It covers computers’ data representation, explains how computer architecture and its underlying meaning changed over the years, and examines the implementations and performance enhancements of the central processing unit (CPU). It then discusses the organization, hierarchy, and performance considerations of computer memory as applied by the operating system and illustrates how cache memory significantly improves performance. The author proceeds to explore the bus system, algorithms for ensuring data integrity, input and output (I/O) components, methods for performing I/O, various aspects relevant to software engineering, and nonvolatile storage devices, such as hard drives and technologies for enhancing performance and reliability. He also describes virtualization and cloud computing and the emergence of software-based systems’ architectures. Accessible to software engineers and developers as well as students in IT disciplines, this book enhances readers’ understanding of the hardware infrastructure used in software engineering projects. It enables readers to better optimize system usage by focusing on the principles used in hardware systems design and the methods for enhancing performance.

Incomparable Values written by John Nolt and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-14 with Philosophy categories.

People tend to rank values of all kinds linearly from good to bad, but there is little reason to think that this is reasonable or correct. This book argues, to the contrary, that values are often partially ordered and hence frequently incomparable. Proceeding logically from a small set of axioms, John Nolt examines the great variety of partially ordered value structures, exposing fallacies that arise from overlooking them. He reveals various ways in which incomparability is obscured: using linear indices to summarize partially ordered data, relying on an inadequately defined concept of parity, or conflating incomparability with vagueness. Incomparability can enrich and clarify a range of topics including the paradoxes of Derek Parfit, rational decision theory, and the infinite values of theology. Finally, Nolt shows how to generalize many of the concepts introduced earlier, explores the intricate depths of certain noteworthy partially ordered value structures, and argues for the finitude of value. Incomparable Values will be of interest to scholars and advanced students working in ethics, value theory, rational decision theory, and logic.

Introduction To Computer Data Representation written by Peter Fenwick and has been published by Bentham Science Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-28 with Computers categories.

Introduction to Computer Data Representation introduces readers to the representation of data within computers. Starting from basic principles of number representation in computers, the book covers the representation of both integer and floating point numbers, and characters or text. It comprehensively explains the main techniques of computer arithmetic and logical manipulation. The book also features chapters covering the less usual topics of basic checksums and ‘universal’ or variable length representations for integers, with additional coverage of Gray Codes, BCD codes and logarithmic representations. The description of character coding includes information on both MIME and Unicode formats. Introduction to Computer Data Representation also includes historical aspects of data representation, explaining some of the steps that developers took (and the mistakes they made) that led to the present, well-defined and accepted standards of data representation techniques. The book serves as a primer for advanced computer science graduates and a handy reference for anyone wanting to learn about numbers and data representation in computers.

Handbook of Sleep Research, Volume 30, provides a comprehensive review of the current status of the neuroscience of sleep research. It begins with an overview of the neural, hormonal and genetic mechanisms of sleep and wake regulation before outlining the various proposed functions of sleep and the role it plays in plasticity, and in learning and memory. Finally, the book discusses disorders of sleep and waking, covering both lifestyle factors that cause disrupted sleep and psychiatric and neurological conditions that contribute to disorders. Emphasizes a comparative and multidisciplinary approach to the topic of sleep Covers the neurobiology and physiology of sleep stages, mechanisms of waking, and dreaming Discusses in detail the proposed functions of sleep, from health and rest, to memory consolidation and synaptic plasticity Examines the current state of research in mammalian and non-mammalian species, ranging from primates to invertebrates
