"Ne on niitä nenkossii" Paetessaan Itä-Karjalassa riehuneen sodan jaloista Suomeen karjalaisevakot joutuvat sopeutumaan täysin erilaiseen kulttuuriin, suomenkieliseen, luterilaiseen Suomeen. Omalla tavallaan he ovat maahanmuuttajia, turvapaikanhakijoita. Nenkoset on Heikki Turusen evakkoeepoksen kolmas itsenäinen romaani. Heikki Turunen (s. 1945) on Suomen merkittävin rakennemuutoksen kuvaaja, hänen huumoristaan ja verevästä karjalankielestään runsas kansankuvauksensa on muodostunut tärkeäksi osaksi suomalaista mielenmaisemaa.

The Fall Of The West written by Adrian Goldsworthy and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with History categories.

The Fall of the Roman Empire has been a best-selling subject since the 18th century. Since then, over 200 very diverse reasons have been advocated for the collapse of the western half of the Roman Empire. Until very recently, the academic view embarrassedly downplayed the violence and destruction, in an attempt to provide a more urbane account of late antiquity: barbarian invasions were mistakenly described as the movement of peoples. It was all painfully tame and civilised. But now Adrian Goldsworthy comes forward with his trademark combination of clear narrative, common sense, and a thorough mastery of the sources. In telling the story from start to finish, he rescues the era from the diffident and mealy-mouthed: this is a red-blooded account of aggressive barbarian attacks, palace coups, scheming courtiers and corrupt emperors who set the bar for excess. It is 'old fashioned history' in the best sense: an accessible narrative with colourful characters whose story reveals the true reasons for the fall of Rome.

Booklist called Maresi “utterly satisfying and completely different from standard YA fantasy.” Now, Naondel goes back to establish the world of the trilogy and tells the story of the First Sisters—the founders of the female utopia the Red Abbey. Imprisoned in a harem by a dangerous man with a dark magic that grants him power over life and death, the First Sisters must overcome their mistrust of one another in order to escape. But they can only do so at a great cost, both for those who leave and for those left behind. Told in alternating points of view, this novel is a vivid, riveting look at a world of oppression and exploitation, the mirror opposite of the idyllic Red Abbey.

The Eusistocratic Republic of Finland has bred a new human sub-species of receptive, submissive women, called eloi, for sex and procreation, while intelligent, independent women are relegated to menial labour and sterilized. Vanna, raised as an eloi but secretly intelligent, needs money to help her doll-like sister, Manna. Vanna forms a friendship with a man named Jare, and they become involved in buying and selling a stimulant known to the Health Authority to be extremely dangerous: chilli peppers. Then Manna disappears, and Jare comes across a strange religious cult in possession of the Core of the Sun, a chilli so hot that it is rumoured to cause hallucinations. Does this chilli have effects that justify its prohibition? How did Finland turn into the North Korea of Europe? And will Vanna succeed in her quest to find her sister, or will her growing need to satisfy her chilli addiction destroy her? Johanna Sinisalo's tautly told story of fight and flight is also a feisty, between-the-lines social polemic - a witty, inventive, and fiendishly engaging read from the queen of 'Finnish Weird'.

The city has been occupied, burned, and bombed. Its streets have seen people murdered, swindled, and frozen to death. Author and TV crime reporter Jarkko Sipilä tells the stories of Helsinki's dark side, past and present from the double murder in the nineteenth-century slums of Katajanokka to the homicides of the 21st century, from the opulent meals enjoyed by the upper class in the midst of the famine of 1868 to Finland's first brush with modern terrorism in 1981.
