Most of the villages were planned to be demolished and rebuild as high-rise residential communities. As a consequence, every modern city in China seems to be more and more similar. Concrete, glasses, steels...same construction materials make the city look like the same and lost its characteristics and culture identification. Instead of being replaced by high-rise residential buildings, urban village is struggling to find another way out. In this case, some villages catch the chance when artists appeared. Developing creative industry in traditional village gives another example for village reconstruction, which contributes to preserve the culture and tradition, and further improve the current living conditions based on the local features. The objective of this study is Xiaozhou Village in Guangzhou. The natural and historical assets have been the main raw materials for the regeneration effort, rather than some alien and inappropriate model of contemporary development. The villagers themselves have taken a central role in this redevelopment effort and have marked the new Xiaozhou with unique and culturally significant interventions. This study is mainly divide into four chapters. The first part is the base of the study, introducing the background of the city. According to the research, issues would be found and potential solutions should be proposed. Part two is about the site context that can help to further understand the conditions. On the basis of the research, strategy of developing creative industry and increasing service facilities would be proposed in part three. Lastly, there would be detail design in specific site, showing the result of the study. This study aims at exploring new mode of developing traditional village community, residential community can be transformed to art center, not just what old factories can do. Subjects: Cultural industries - China - Guangzhou Urban renewal - China - Guangzhou

This book investigates resource-constrained environments in the tropics and subtropics where people’s lives and businesses are affected, and adaptations occur periodically. Constrained environments are unique territories characterised by challenging circumstances, limited land and natural resources. They can be places with a small municipal boundary or cities in which parts around them may be consumed by ocean, bay or mountains. Those places face hard physical boundaries like coastlines and mountains, which in addition to policy decisions that may limit height or density, can also serve to limit capacity for expansion. Successful communities and businesses tend to survive in a changing environment given their strong intuitive and forward-looking adaptations. This book delves into the role of urban planning and design in the promotion of business and adaptations of people and communities. Additionally, the focus takes into account impact analysis and the effects of an expanding populations, including growing migrant flows, and business needs on the built environment of land-constrained territories

Ongoing landscape transformation worldwide has raised global concerns and there is a need to rethink landscaping to protect the environment. This is especially true for previously developed sites, currently abandoned or underused. Instead of consuming green lands, these derelict landscapes need to be redeveloped and given new life, enabling their transition to an increasingly sustainable urban setting. In this scenario, the present book, considers a set of subjects that highlight the diverse nature of the scientific domains associated with landscape reclamation, emphasizing the need to acknowledge that the contribution of each sustainability dimension is equally important. This will offer complementary development opportunities, while enabling redeveloped landscapes to fulfill multiple functions in an integrated way and underline the relevance of multifunctionality to promote sustainable landscape reclamation, planning, and development.

Debating The Neoliberal City written by Gilles Pinson and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-21 with Social Science categories.

The concept of the neoliberal city has become a key structuring analytical framework in the field of urban studies. It explains both the ongoing transformation of urban policies and the socio-spatial effects of these policies within cities and highlights the prominent role of cities in the new geography of capitalism. Bringing together a team of leading scholars, this book challenges the neoliberal city thesis. It argues that the definition of neoliberalization may be more complex than it seems, resulting in over-simplified explanations of some processes, such as the rise of metropolitan governments or the importance given to urban economic development policies or gentrification. As a structuralist and macro-level theory, the "neoliberal city" does not shed light upon micro-level processes or identify and analyze actors’ logics and practices. Finally, the concept is profoundly influenced by the historical trajectories of the United Kingdom and the United States, and the generalization of this experience to other contexts often leads to a kind of academic ethnocentrism. This book argues that, on its own, the current conceptualizations of neoliberalization are insufficient. Instead, it should be analyzed alongside other transformative processes in order to provide an analytical framework to explain the variety of processes of change, motivations and justifications too easily labelled as urban neoliberalism. This unique and critical contribution will be essential reading for students and scholars alike working in Human Geography, Urban Studies, Economics, Sociology and Public Policy.
