Includes FREE MP3 Download Link.Recommended for Beginners of Japanese.Beginning to learn a new language can be a lot of fun. But it is important to begin your learning with structure. You don't want to end up knowing random or useless information that will sap your motivation once the initial enthusiasm fades. This book is intended to introduce important grammatical points in a structured, bite-sized way. We will introduce only the most useful grammatical points ordered by how common they are in beginner level textbooks. It is not, however, designed to replace a textbook or even a detailed grammar book.As a result, we spend little time explaining each grammatical note. Each of the one hundred lessons are designed to be completed in less than ten minutes. You won't master a grammatical point in one ten-minute sitting. You will, however, become familiar with something previously unknown. The next time you review that lesson or run across it in your textbook, you will feel like you are meeting someone you have seen or even met before. In fact, that is a good way to look at it. We believe that learning complex and previously unknown things like grammar is best done in stages: Stranger (This is an unknown grammatical point.)Acquaintance (You've heard of it, but you don't know much about its function or usage.)Friend (You know a good deal about its function and usage, but may not be able to use it smoothly in conversation.)Best Friend (You have mastered the grammatical point and you are able to use it correctly at will.)This book will help you meet the most important Strangers and move them into the Acquaintance or even Friend category.BONUS #1: Also included is an article on the top ten mistakes beginners make--learn about common mistakes before you make them.BONUS #2: Download FREE MP3s for every example given (Link is on the last page of the book)

Once one zooms beyond the basics of a language, idiomatic expressions, proverbs, and slang can provide the spice to keep motivation up and progress going forward. This book will introduce 101 of the most common Japanese idioms. We are including at no extra charge MP3s for all the examples found in this book. Create play-lists to study on the go or burn the sound files to a CD to listen at home. The download link is found on the last page.We believe the best way to learn vocabulary--by far--is to study words within their proper context. Every idiom is followed by an example sentence and a paragraph or two explaining the context and usage. Each idiom will have three sound files associated with it. The MP3s are all recorded by native voice actors and actresses. The first sound file is the idiom itself. The second is the example sentence. The third sound file has the idiom, an English translation, the idiom repeated slowly, and the example sentence with translation. Try to mimic the Japanese speakers in sound and presentation. We highly recommend knowing hiragana before tackling this book. Most words have romaji, but the example sentences do not. Every kanji here has furigana (small hiragana) over it to aid reading. If you do not yet know hiragana, please check out our Hiragana book: "Hiragana, the Basics of Japanese."

Keigo In Modern Japan written by Patricia J. Wetzel and has been published by University of Hawaii Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-01-31 with Juvenile Fiction categories.

Patricia Wetzel offers in this volume a comprehensive examination of a frequently discussed yet much misunderstood aspect of the Japanese language. Keigo, or “polite language,” is often viewed as a quaint accessory to Japanese grammar and a relic of Japan’s feudal past. Nothing, Wetzel contends, could be further from the truth. It is true that Japan has a long history of differentiating linguistic form on the basis of social status, psychological detachment, emotional reserve, and a host of other context-dependent factors. But, as is made clear in this unique and broadly framed study, modern keigo consciousness and keigo grammar emerged out of Japan’s encounter with Western intellectual trends in the mid- to late nineteenth century. Keigo in Modern Japan presents a finely nuanced linguistic and political review of keigo available nowhere else in English. The first chapter outlines the ways in which keigo has been problematized in Western linguistics through the application of structuralist analysis and its offshoots. But keigo’s presence in the English-language literature does not begin to compare with the place it occupies in the Japanese linguistic canon. Wetzel describes the historical roots and growth of keigo and the popularity of how-to manuals, which, she contends, are less about overt instruction than reinforcing what people already believe.

A great story can lead a reader on a journey of discovery—especially if it's presented in two languages! Beautifully illustrated in a traditional style, Japanese Stories for Language Learners offers five compelling stories with English and Japanese language versions appearing on facing pages. Taking learners on an exciting cultural and linguistic journey, each story is followed by detailed translator's notes, Japanese vocabulary lists, and grammar points along with a set of discussion questions and exercises. The first two stories are very famous traditional Japanese folktales: Urashima Taro (Tale of a Fisherman) and Yuki Onna (The Snow Woman). These are followed by three short stories by notable 20th century authors: Kumo no Ito (The Spider's Thread) by Akutagawa Ryunosuke (1892-1927) Oborekaketa Kyodai (The Siblings Who Almost Drowned) by Arishima Takeo (1878-1923) Serohiki no Goshu (Gauche the Cellist) by Miyazawa Kenji (1896-1933) Reading these stories in the original Japanese script--and hearing native-speakers read them aloud in the accompanying free audio recording--helps students at every level deepen their comprehension of the beauty and subtlety of the Japanese language. Learn Japanese the fun way—through the country's rich literary history.

Welcome To Japanese written by Kenneth G. Henshall and has been published by Tuttle Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-05-15 with Foreign Language Study categories.

This is a concise and user–friendly introduction to the Japanese language. Students, businesspeople or tourists will have a much more rewarding experience if they learn basic Japanese prior to or during their time in Japan. Using a self–study resource is a great way to learn Japanese. In this book we would therefore like to "demistify" Japanese, to show how the language is formed and used, and to encourage you to pursue the study of it. Of course it has its challenges, especially with regards to the writing system, but we try to put these in a balanced context. And we like to think that, by describing the various facets of the Japanese language to you, we thereby empower you with a degree of knowledge and familiarity. Welcome to Japanese is not intended as a language learning textbook. Rather, it is an introductory description, comprising four parts: an overview; an account of how sounds are made into words; an account of how words are made into sentences; and finally an account of how the language is written. Naturally, in the course of these accounts we will introduce a range of beginner Japanese vocabulary, Japanese grammar, and Japanese script, which will be useful in a learning context. In fact, for those interested, we go into fairly advanced levels in the description of grammar. We give you example sentences for each grammar point, and try to make our description as clear as possible, but we stress again that we do not intend this as a teaching text. There are no exercises, for instance, and it's very much a case of going through at your own pace and dwelling on those parts that you find most interesting. Welcome to Japanese includes: Chapter 1: Getting acquainted with the Language In a nutshell, what English speakers can expect. Who speaks Japanese?. Where did the Japanese language come from?. Chapter 2: Challenges and Rewards The good news. The not quite so good news. Chapter 3: Making the Right Noises The basic sound structure. Pronunciation. The long and short of it: vowel length. Double consonants. New sounds Pitch accents. Chapter 4: It's Only Words? Japanese words in English. English and other foreign words in Japanese. Native words and Sino–Japanese words. Chapter 5: The basic Parts of Speech Japanese nouns, pronouns and titles. Main particles. The basics of Japanese verbs and particle usage. Prepositions and conjunctions. Adjective and adverbs. Numbers, dates and times. Chapter 6: More Advanced Usage Politeness and plain forms. More Structures. Respect language. Some common sayings. Chapter 7: The Writing System Script components and their development. Japanese script versions of review sentences. And so, Welcome to Japanese!
