Tiene relaciones palpitantes con jóvenes no judías, pero como quiere construir su vida con alguien de su propia religión, esos idilios no llegan lejos. Cuando busca conocer mujeres israelíes, la decepción lo golpea en la cara y sus experiencias se convierten en comedias tragicómicas: trágicas para él, pero cómicas y divertidas para el lector, que verá cómo en cada ocasión, el champán se convierte en vinagre... Estos contrastes entre una rica vida social y una soledad interior, entre las costumbres refinadas de la aristocracia europea y la compleja sociedad israelí, entre la vida al son del tango argentino y la cadencia gris de los encuentros en Israel, entre la vida judía en la diáspora y la actitud ambivalente hacia la religión en Tierra Santa, y entre la vida real frente a los destellos de la psicología y el misticismo, todas estas vicisitudes marcan la vida de Alex pero lamentablemente también la desgarran.
