Japanese Popular Music written by Carolyn Stevens and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-21 with Music categories.
Japanese popular culture has been steadily increasing in visibility both in Asia and beyond in recent years. This book examines Japanese popular music, exploring its historical development, technology, business and production aspects, audiences, and language and culture. Based both on extensive textual and aural analysis, and on anthropological fieldwork, it provides a wealth of detail, finding differences as well as similarities between the Japanese and Western pop music scenes. Carolyn Stevens shows how Japanese popular music has responded over time to Japan's relationship to the West in the post-war era, gradually growing in independence from the political and cultural hegemonic presence of America. Similarly, the volume explores the ways in which the Japanese artist has grown in independence vis-à-vis his/her role in the production process, and examines in detail the increasingly important role of the jimusho, or the entertainment management agency, where many individual artists and music industry professionals make decisions about how the product is delivered to the public. It also discusses the connections to Japanese television, film, print and internet, thereby providing through pop music a key to understanding much of Japanese popular culture more widely.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Musicology - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,8, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, language: English, abstract: Five years before starting my studies at the University of Applied Sciences Bremen, I absolved an apprenticeship at Warner Music Germany, one of the leading major music labels. During these 2 1⁄2 years, I gained a thorough insight of the various departments a record label has to offer such as TV, radio and press promotion, A&R as well as licensing and retail. I continued working for Warner Music after graduation and put my gained knowledge to good use. My interest for music and the music industry in general didn’t end when I chose to study Applied Business Languages (emphasis Japanese) and International Management in Bremen, and during my yearlong stay in Japan, I couldn’t help but notice the abundance of pop music “made in Japan” and some peculiar differences on how music seemed to be promoted. Why shouldn’t there be differences anyway? Japan is unlike the rest of the world in so many ways, why shouldn’t this be the case for the music business? This train of thought led to the subject of this bachelor thesis. In order to compare the promotion tools of both markets, it is important to gain an overview of both music industries first: chapter three defines the current status as well as some of the characteristics of the Japanese and German music market. Chapter four takes a closer look at the marketing mix and presents the most important promotion methods used in Japan while comparing these to the German market such as testimonials and the tie-in system. It also gives examples of new ways of advertising both in Japan and Germany. The next chapter deals with the empiric research conducted for this thesis in order to support and/or disprove the claims and observations made in the previous chapters. Possible reasons for the differences between theory and practice are presented as well. Last but not least, chapter six sums up all important information about the differences and similarities in a nutshell.

"Drawing on archival research, oral history interviews, and participant observation, this examination of the adoption and adaptation of Mod style across geographic space also maps its various interpretations over time, from the early 1960s to the present. The book traces the Mod youth culture from its genesis in the dimly lit clubs of London's Soho. where it began as a way for young people to reconfigure modernity after the chaos of World War II, to its contemporary, country-specific expressions. By examining Mod culture in the United States, Germany, and Japan alongside the United Kingdom, "We Are the Mods" contrasts the postwar development of Mod in those countries that lost the war with those that won. The book illuminates the culture's fashion, music, iconography, and gender aesthetics, to create a compelling portrait of a transnational subculture." --Book Jacket.

This book explores desire through the work of a new generation of Japanese women writers, in response to the increased attention these writers have received following the release of their work in the English language. The contributions explore a wide range of theoretical approaches and psychoanalytic interpretations to "reading" a new generation of Japanese women writers’ relationships to identity, sex/gender, and desire. Through dealing with female spaces, maternal roles, gendered bodies, or resistant speech acts, the book uncovers the overarching theme of desire – desire for language, touch, and recognition. Focusing on authors who have previously been underrepresented in English-language scholarship, the book highlights the diverse nature and the important synergies of writing by women in the last few decades. Addressing experimental and nonconforming authors whose works challenge gender and culture expectation as well as Orientalist myths, this will be a valuable resource for students and scholars of Asian literature, Japanese culture, and Asian studies.

The Economics Of Crime Control written by Llad Phillips and has been published by SAGE Publications, Incorporated this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1981-11 with Social Science categories.
This book is about how public funds and human resources can be allocated to optimize the control of crime in a modern democratic society. The authors build a model of crime generation, and control - through the imposition of sanctions - that provides insight into alternatives for social policy-makers. Econometric techniques are used to analyze policy issues such as: establishing control policies; determining monetary measures of the seriousness of crime; discerning community priorities for fighting crime; choosing between alternative drug-control programs; and extracting useful information from crime data. These techniques are also used to determine: the effect of economic opportunities for youth on crime rates; the influence of rising crime rates on police effectiveness; the cost of police effectiveness; and the possibility for deterring violence. Additional issues examined are: the effect of handgun control on homicide rates; the relative merits of jail and probation; the rate of police manpower growth needed to keep pace with crime rates; and the necessary data needed for planning an optimum level of public safety. The analysis starts with single-equation estimations and builds to system and multi-equation models. The statistical results are based on several data sets with the earlier studies using time series from the 1950's and 1960's. The estimation of the more complex model is based on cross-sectional data from the 1960 and 1970 census for the counties of California.
