"It wasn't that bad. Other kids had it much worse " Could you be one of the forgotten trauma survivors? Are you coping with unidentified complex PTSD from early intangible attachment trauma today? You now have a healing guidebook written just for you. The trauma category of non-physically-assaultive, attachment-based Chronic Covert Trauma (naCCT) poses unique challenges because of its subtle everyday nature," says author Ricia Fleming, licensed therapist and naCCT survivor. Maybe you experienced naCCTs such as: ?Emotional, social, and/or psychological neglect. ?Gaslighting and reality twisting, ?"No Hugs, No Cuddles" Trauma, ?Traumatic absence of loving guidance, interest, or understanding, ?Physically present, (even over-controlling, intrusive), but psychologically unattuned ("helicopter") parenting, ?Being used as your parent's parent, a trophy child, or a "stand-in spouse," or even ?Hidden hostilities. Because there's no tangible trauma to point to, confusion is normal for adults who've been wounded by early naCCTs; many even deny they've been traumatized. Yet, realistically, when we're little, subtle everyday disturbances in our Lifeline-Relationships with mother, father, or other important caregivers can register on our bodies, minds, and spirits as threats to life itself. In a word, as 'trauma.'" Whether or not your caregiver was concerned and well-intentioned, whether or not you also experienced blatant physical assaults like beatings or incest, the cumulative effect of these early naCCTs can cause complex PTSD, leaving you as an adult to cope with physical, psychological, financial, and relationship problems and overall lack of fun, spontaneity, and meaning. This cutting-edge book, uniquely devoted to healing the hidden wounds from these early traumas, will help you take pride in how well you have managed so far. Then it will give you action steps for starting to feel better right away. Destined to become a life-changing classic, it provides ?Down-to-earth survivor stories you can relate to, ?Strategies for identifying, handling, and de-activating subtle People-Triggers, painful Body-State-Triggers, and hard-to-recognize naCCT flashbacks, ?Practical guidance and non-pathologizing support grounded in neurobiological research, and ?A toolkit of empowering information, actionable strategies, checklists, exercises, and self-talk scripts. Every adult I have ever worked with has identified a broken, hurt or disillusioned child memory within; "The Children in my Chair." Susie had an intense phobia, Lucy was a compulsive over eater, Valerie believed women are subservient and had no voice, Noreen grew up with a lack mentality and was always broke, Erin never felt good enough, Julie believed she was unlovable, Doug was angry all the time and Katie distrusted her feelings and hide them inside. How did this happen? We are living in a world full of people living with shame, guilt, self blame, unhappiness, unworthiness, fear and obligation that was originally `put upon them' unconsciously by their mentors and role models in early life. How we, as innocent children, learn about and what we come to believe about ourselves and about life are the teachings of this book. We've been conditioned! Conditioning begins with words we hear, think and speak. This book is a simple call to presence for all because everyone was once a child themselves. Take this opportunity to; recognize your own conditioning; break the chains of the past; learn what it is to be present; and learn how to consciously use words that empower, inspire, support and encourage both yourself and the children in your life now.

Minority students in China often receive preferential treatment for access to universities. However, very little is known about minority student experiences and perceptions on campus after they are accorded what's called "meaningful access" to university. The Mongols emerged as a distinct ethnic group in China starting in the 11th century and, in the centuries that followed, conquered a large part of the world. However, in modern times this nomadic people's influence has declined, and even their survival in China has been threatened. This decline is evidenced by the fact that increasing numbers of Mongols have abandoned their native language and traditional customs, especially those who live in cities. How do Mongol university students, who form the backbone of the Mongol intellectual community, identify themselves in a modern Chinese context? How do they react as university students to the way in which their culture is recognized and represented? Do Mongol students suffer from injustice in the cultural dimension of campus life? China's Mongols at University: Contesting Cultural Recognition seeks to answer these questions. Zhenzhou Zhao addresses these issues by comparing the university discourse (on minority culture policy, institutional structure and daily life) and the Mongol student discourse (concerning their experiences, perceptions of recognition, and dedication to self-representation on campus) Additionally, Gao compares three universities in China. Located in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Beijing, and Hubei Province, respectively, each of these universities represents one of three types of higher education accessible to minority students in China: universities located in ethnic areas, standard universities, and universities for nationalities. China's Mongols at University explores and discusses an intrinsic connection between marketization and globalization and the disadvantages faced by minority groups. This book argues that China must move from a policy of preferential tre

Americans have a gift for coining proverbs. "A picture is worth a thousand words" was not, as you might imagine, the product of ancient Chinese wisdom -- it was actually minted by advertising executive Fred Barnard in a 1921 advertisement for Printer's Ink magazine. After all, Americans are first and foremost a practical people and proverbs can be loosely defined as pithy statements that are generally accepted as true and useful. The next logical step would be to gather all of this wisdom together for a truly American celebration of shrewd advice.A Dictionary of American Proverbs is the first major collection of proverbs in the English language based on oral sources rather than written ones. Listed alphabetically according to their most significant key word, it features over 15,000 entries including uniquely American proverbs that have never before been recorded, as well as thousands of traditional proverbs that have found their way into American speech from classical, biblical, British, continental European, and American literature. Based on the fieldwork conducted over thirty years by the American Dialect Society, this volume is complete with historical references to the earliest written sources, and supplies variants and recorded geographical distribution after each proverb. Many surprised await the reader in this vast treasure trove of wit and wisdom. Collected here are nuggets of popular wisdom on all aspects of American life: weather, agriculture, travel, money, business, food, neighbors, friends, manners, government, politics, law, health, education, religion, music, song, and dance. And, to further enhance browsing pleasure, the editors have provided a detailed guide to the use of the work. While it's true that many of our best known proverbs have been supplied by the ever-present "Anonymous," many more can be attributed to some very famous Americans, like Ernest Hemingway, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain, J. Pierpont Morgan, Thomas Alva Edison, Abigail Adams, and Ralph Waldo Emerson, to name but a few offered in this fascinating collection.Who wouldn't want to know the origin of "the opera ain't over till the fat lady sings?" This uniquely American proverb and many more are gathered together in A Dictionary of American Proverbs. A great resource for students and scholars of literature, psychology, folklore, linguistics, anthropology, and cultural history, this endlessly intriguing volume is also a delightful companion for anyone with an interest in American culture.
