Por medio de los procesos de socialización, las personas homosexuales construyen su realidad y dan significado a la misma con los referentes culturales y biológicos establecidos para el hombre y la mujer. En la mayoría de las culturas, ya sea por mayoría demográfica, por discursos religiosos o biologicistas, se privilegian y se visibilizan las formas en que los heterosexuales se relacionan y conforman sus relaciones de parejas. Estas formas de relacionarse sientan un referente en la subjetivación de la población homosexual. Las parejas homosexuales conforman sus relaciones sentimentales basándose en las reglas que ha impuesto la sociedad para los heterosexuales. Es probable que las parejas homosexuales sientan negatividad hacia sí mismos o hacia su pareja por no cumplir con estas reglas que se le imponen, aunque estas estén hechas en un principio para los heterosexuales. Esta investigación pretende explorar como esto está pasando en las parejas homosexuales puertorriqueñas y si se puede establecer una relación entre la satisfacción de pareja y estas nociones homonegativas arraigadas inconscientemente en nuestra forma de pensar. Los objetivos de este estudio fueron: 1) Evaluar el nivel asociación entre la adscripción a la heteronormatividad y homofobia internalizada que existe en un grupo hombres puertorriqueños que están en una relación homosexual, 2) explicar el impacto, si alguno, que tienen las nociones de heteronormatividad, la homonegatividad internalizada y la satisfacción de pareja, en las prácticas sexuales de un grupo de hombres homosexuales puertorriqueños y 3) examinar la forma en que dicho grupo de hombres da significado y sentido a lo que representa “ser pareja” expresandose desde sus realidades y subjetividades particulares. Se partió del construccionismo social como enmarque teórico para realizar una investigación de corte mixto y de diseño no experimental, correlacional en la que se recopilaron datos cuantitativos a través de instrumentos y hoja de datos sociodemográficos y además se realizaron entrevistas semi-estructuradas para la recolección de datos cualitativos. Se reclutaron 148 participantes para la fase 1 de los cuales 5 participaron en la fase 2 de entrevistas. Se realizaron análisis estadísticos correlacionales de los que se desprenden que existe una relación entre los niveles de homonegatividad internaliza y el nivel de satisfacción de pareja que experimentó un grupo de hombres homosexuales puertorriqueños. Del mismo modo se encontró que el arraigo a nociones heteronormativas en los homosexuales tiene un impacto en los niveles de homofobia internalizada que experimenta dicha muestra. El análisis fenomenológico realizado sobre las experiencias en pareja de la muestra reflejó que los entendidos heteronormativos imperan en ellos y median en la construcción que hacen de pareja. La división de roles por genero podría traer experiencias negativas incomodidad o desacuerdo entre hombres que tiene una relación amorosa entre si. Los hombres que participaron de este grupo experimentaron limitaciones en libertad de expresiones de afecto hacia su pareja en lugares públicos por miedo a represalias o ataques de las personas que le rodean. Además, pudieron definir la importancia de la comunicación, la empatía y el respeto como claves para la resolución de conflictos y para la convivencia plena y saludable.
