Seminar paper from the year 2019 in the subject Health - Miscellaneous, grade: 2,00, Management Center Innsbruck, language: English, abstract: The global challenge against non-communicable diseases gained transnational attention over the last years. Statistics illustrate, that approximately 70% of all deaths worldwide can be traced back to chronic diseases. On the other hand, artificial intelligence is on the rise as the number of implemented software featuring machine-learning skills increased tremendously in the last years. Therefore, the purpose of this literature review is to combine those aspects in order to create synergies of the link between existing approaches with the aim to face non-communicable diseases and artificial intelligence. The review focusses firstly specifically only on the most prevalent NCDs and their characteristics before analysing the rise of machine-learning software from the very beginning. In a next step, those two fields will be combined with the aim to point out both benefits and risks when implementing AI in the healthcare sector. The outcome was, that the use of such software would definitely cut a three-digit number of billions of Euros of spending on healthcare due to the possibility to early-detect diseases and the hereby arising possibility to treat patients in a more efficient way as until now. On the other hand, the biggest risk will be, that artificial intelligence works on huge datasets that need to be set up first – during the setting up process of such data, failures can take place which would have a grave impact on further use.

Leveraging Data Science For Global Health written by Leo Anthony Celi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-31 with Medical categories.

This open access book explores ways to leverage information technology and machine learning to combat disease and promote health, especially in resource-constrained settings. It focuses on digital disease surveillance through the application of machine learning to non-traditional data sources. Developing countries are uniquely prone to large-scale emerging infectious disease outbreaks due to disruption of ecosystems, civil unrest, and poor healthcare infrastructure – and without comprehensive surveillance, delays in outbreak identification, resource deployment, and case management can be catastrophic. In combination with context-informed analytics, students will learn how non-traditional digital disease data sources – including news media, social media, Google Trends, and Google Street View – can fill critical knowledge gaps and help inform on-the-ground decision-making when formal surveillance systems are insufficient.

Big Data in Psychiatry and Neurology provides an up-to-date overview of achievements in the field of big data in Psychiatry and Medicine, including applications of big data methods to aging disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease), mood disorders (e.g., major depressive disorder), and drug addiction. This book will help researchers, students and clinicians implement new methods for collecting big datasets from various patient populations. Further, it will demonstrate how to use several algorithms and machine learning methods to analyze big datasets, thus providing individualized treatment for psychiatric and neurological patients. As big data analytics is gaining traction in psychiatric research, it is an essential component in providing predictive models for both clinical practice and public health systems. As compared with traditional statistical methods that provide primarily average group-level results, big data analytics allows predictions and stratification of clinical outcomes at an individual subject level. Discusses longitudinal big data and risk factors surrounding the development of psychiatric disorders Analyzes methods in using big data to treat psychiatric and neurological disorders Describes the role machine learning can play in the analysis of big data Demonstrates the various methods of gathering big data in medicine Reviews how to apply big data to genetics

"This report sets out the statistics, evidence and experiences needed to launch a more forceful response to the growing threat posed by noncommunicable diseases. While advice and recommendations are universally relevant, the report gives particular attention to conditions in low- and middle-income countries, which now bear nearly 80% of the burden from diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases. The health consequences of the worldwide epidemic of obesity are also addressed. The report takes an analytical approach, using global, regional and country-specific data to document the magnitude of the problem, project future trends, and assess the factors contributing to these trends. As noted, the epidemic of these diseases is being driven by forces now touching every region of the world: demographic aging, rapid unplanned urbanization, and the globalization of unhealthy lifestyles"--Publisher's description.
