Pour ce faire, il a choisi d’écrire un « roman–cinéma », divisé en treize séquences, dont chacune porte l’éclairage sur l’un des invités de Simon Kahn. En gros plan : Stan, le journaliste ; Nemkine, le romancier ; Thérèse, qui ne pourra jamais oublier que le malheur existe ; Petit Simon, qui pratique le calembour comme une seconde nature, etc. Le héros principal du roman reste le temps, qui cicatrise les plaies mais dénature l’espérance, le temps qui va s’emparer de Nord-Plage... En toile de fond de ce roman-saga, les soubresauts politiques de la France de 1962 à 1984, les Juifs d’URSS, la présence obsédante d’Israël, la communauté juive française. Il y a ici — drôle, souvent, émouvant, parfois, vivant toujours — le jeu des filles et des garçons, l’hymne à l’amitié, qui accompagnent la nostalgie du temps perdu et donnent à Nord-Plage sa petite musique. Roger Ascot est rédacteur en chef de l'Arche. "Nord-Plage" est son quatrième roman.
