They are arranged alphabetically by file folder title. Box 2 contains copies of material pertaining to the Hermannsburg Mission in India. These items were compiled by Hartwig Harms, a Hermannsburg missionary. The records, in German, are handwritten and typewritten histories, chronicles, and an index of items pertaining to the Hermannsburg India mission field, its stations and missionary Harms. These items were sent to the Rev. C.V. Sheatsley, Executive Secretary, India Section, 1930-1943.

This series comprises material pertaining to the New Guinea mission field during the period of time in which the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa and Other States (Iowa Synod), and later the American Lutheran Church (ALC), worked with the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Australia to administer orphaned German mission fields in New Guinea. The mission at this time was referred to as Lutheran Mission New Guinea (LMNG). Records are from 1924-1949 with the majority dating from 1931-1934. It is unclear if the records were kept by the LMNG itself and then later sent to the ALC's Board of Foreign Missions (BFM), or if the board itself generated the majority of the records.

Santali, or the language of the Santhals, is spoken by the sons of the soil in a large territory spread over Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa and North-Eastern India.
