Reading this book should be at the top of your To Do list. Every day, an unseen form of labour creeps into our lives, stealing precious moments of free time, placing a strain on our schedules, our relationships and our sanity, and recouping neither appreciation nor compensation in return. This labour is admin - the kind of secretarial and managerial work necessary to run a life and a household: from scheduling doctor's appointments to planning a wedding, researching schools, filling out paperwork and paying bills. In The Art of Admin, Elizabeth Emens reveals the insidious nature of these tasks that pile up in the margins of our lives, dismissed as trivial or insignificant, unrecognized and unrewarded. In a compelling, and wholly original manner, Emens tackles the problem of admin in all its guises, explores how this form of labour is created, how it affects our lives and how we might avoid, reduce and redistribute admin whenever possible. Drawing on her own personal struggle with admin and the stories of others, Emens offers a valuable new perspective into how we - through individual and societal choices, changes in law and policy, creation of market alternatives and increased awareness in the workplace - can take back control of our time, once and for all.

And Other Duties As Assigned written by T. Theodora Blount and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-22 with Business & Economics categories.

This book was written as a motivational and training guide for support staff, but just about anyone working in any corporate environment could benefit from the tips provided. It is hoped that every reader finds a few “take -aways”; perhaps something that either verified what you were already thinking or something that you can use to step up your game. No, it’s not easy to be in an administrative support role; especially when you’re likely to be recognized for the things you didn’t do far faster than the things you do correctly everyday, BUT there’s something to be said about those of us in these roles who move mountains everyday. After all, some of the stuff we do and do well on a regular basis is nothing short of heroic. The way we save the day working behind the scenes all to better our organizations is representation of SUPER HERO work! No, we may not be actually saving lives (or are we)...but we do some amazing things and while they may fly below the radar and may not be easily noticed, we must still celebrate ourselves and celebrate our profession! Be proud to be in your role! Own it and take responsibility for your success! There’s a saying, “behind every great man, there’s a greater woman”, well behind every successful executive is a Super Duper Admin!

Is Administrative Law Unlawful written by Philip Hamburger and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-27 with Law categories.

“Hamburger argues persuasively that America has overlaid its constitutional system with a form of governance that is both alien and dangerous.” —Law and Politics Book Review While the federal government traditionally could constrain liberty only through acts of Congress and the courts, the executive branch has increasingly come to control Americans through its own administrative rules and adjudication, thus raising disturbing questions about the effect of this sort of state power on American government and society. With Is Administrative Law Unlawful?, Philip Hamburger answers this question in the affirmative, offering a revisionist account of administrative law. Rather than accepting it as a novel power necessitated by modern society, he locates its origins in the medieval and early modern English tradition of royal prerogative. Then he traces resistance to administrative law from the Middle Ages to the present. Medieval parliaments periodically tried to confine the Crown to governing through regular law, but the most effective response was the seventeenth-century development of English constitutional law, which concluded that the government could rule only through the law of the land and the courts, not through administrative edicts. Although the US Constitution pursued this conclusion even more vigorously, administrative power reemerged in the Progressive and New Deal Eras. Since then, Hamburger argues, administrative law has returned American government and society to precisely the sort of consolidated or absolute power that the US Constitution—and constitutions in general—were designed to prevent. With a clear yet many-layered argument that draws on history, law, and legal thought, Is Administrative Law Unlawful? reveals administrative law to be not a benign, natural outgrowth of contemporary government but a pernicious—and profoundly unlawful—return to dangerous pre-constitutional absolutism.
