Kelebihan Nota Elegia terletak pada passion penulisan puisi nan terjaga, bahkan dijaga agar senantiasa menyala dengan terus membuat pertanyataan-pernyataan puitik. Lirik dan diksinya selalu ditata--atau tersitata karena:--menyarankan situasi dari upaya eksplorasi serta eksploitasi emosi--lihat ”Melankolia” atau ”Nota Elegia IX”. Bahkan kengungunan itu sengaja dipertahankan secara kreatif dengan produktif menghadirkan catatan tentang hal-hal sepele yang mendadak mensijelma jadi kristal puitik--seperti terlihat dalam gugusan sajak-sajak pendek improvisatif ”Petcahan-petcahan Katca”. Puisi-puisi dalam manuskrip Nota Elegia menunjukkan keterampilan si kreator dalam mengeksplorasi serta mengeksploitasi sarana kepuitikan--diksi, gaya bahasa, imaji, bunyi, serta tipografi--, sehingga kepaduan terjaga. Tiap unsur saling menguatkan dan dikuatkan unsur lain. Bahasanya jernih mengungkapkan makna. Dengan penguasaan sarana kepuitikan--meski bentuk ucapnya merujuk teknik dan gaya seperti digunakan oleh penyair 1990-an--mampu menghadirkan kebaruan, setidaknya kesegaran--seperti terlihat pada ”Memotong Rambut”, lewat pengulangan bait dan larik berselang-seling sedemikian rupa sehingga efek artistik, nada, dan irama mempertajam makna. Secara keseluruhan, sebagai kumpulan puisi, Nota Elegia memiliki keunggulan kualitas pencarian. Si penyair menjelajahi ke timur dan ke barat, ke kampung serta ke kota, menyelam ke dalam tradisi dan berkecimpung di dalam modernitas, menenggok masa lalu serta mengintip masa kini, merunut fakta-fakta sambil menakik imajinasi, dan memastikan untuk melangkah ke ketidakpastian--selain meraup kata dari bahasa daerah dan bahasa asing. Ada kesengajaan untuk tetap tinggal di dalam ketegangan--bahkan penegangan, karena situasi tegang itu sengaja diciptakan--dari dua dunia yang secara binner berbeda. Di mana di satu sisi mengkondisikan dirinya sebagai si pencari kebenaran yang tak mau diliputi kebimbangan, tapi di sisi lain senantiasa menyangsikan alternatif yang mengisyarat dari ujung terowongan pencarian--sehingga tidak pernah tuntas ditelusuri sampai di ujung. Situasi--yang disadarinya sebagai si terkondisikan--bukan pengkondisian yang mengesankan dirinya hanya obyek dari subyek dominan--, seperti yang ditulisnya dalam kata pengantar, Rhythm of Skepticism--sebuah esai yang tak selesai--, yang ditegaskan lagi dalam ”Lee”. Every third year, the members of the International Association for Neo-Latin Studies (IANLS) assemble for a week-long conference. Over the years, this event has evolved into the largest single conference in the field of Neo-Latin studies. The papers presented at these conferences offer, then, a general overview of the current status of Neo-Latin research; its current trends, popular topics, and methodologies. In 2022, the members of IANLS gathered for a conference in Leuven where 50 years ago the first of these congresses took place.This volume presents the conference’s papers which were submitted after the event and which have undergone a peer-review process. Eudemus of Rhodes was a pupil of Aristotle in the second half of the fourth century BCE. When Aristotle died, having chosen Theophrastus as his successor, Eudemus returned to Rhodes where it appears he founded his own school. His contributions to logic were significant: he took issue with Aristotle concerning the status of the existential "is," and together with Theophrastus he made important contributions to hypothetical syllogistic and modal logic. He wrote at length on physics, largely following Aristotle, and took an interest in animal behavior. His histories of geometry, arithmetic, and astronomy were of great importance and are responsible for much of what we know of these subjects in earlier times.Volume 11 in the series Rutgers Studies in Classical Humanities is different in that it is composed entirely of articles that discuss Eudemus from a variety of viewpoints. Sixteen scholars representing seven nations have contributed essays to the volume. A special essay by Dimitri Gutas brings together for the first time the Arabic material relating to Eudemus.
