Abu Tammam de Ta’i (Yasim, Siria, 805 – Mosul, 846) fue uno de los grandes genios de la poesía árabe antigua, que revolucionó la manera de entender y vivir la poesía. Desde sus humildes orígenes como hijo de vinatero y aprendiz de tejedor llegó a codearse con los califas abasíes y sus visires, pero tras su muerte su obra continuó siendo objeto de enconadas polémicas entre sus partidarios y sus adversarios. Bien entrado el siglo siguiente, Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Suli (Bagdad 874 – Basora 947), filólogo, bibliófilo, ajedrecista y compilador de la mejor poesía, escribe este libro apasionado para reivindicar su figura y su obra. Noticias y anécdotas de Abu Tammam es, a la postre, una antología de lo más granado de la poesía árabe hasta ese momento, no en vano contiene 400 poemas completos o fragmentos de los más grandes poetas árabes. Este volumen incluye una selección de dichos poemas, recitados en su idioma original o en español y copiados algunos de ellos en un anexo.
