A leitura da obra nos mostra a real dimensão do terror do nazismo, a tragédia da Holocausto (Shoah), e a capacidade dos sobreviventes de manter sua humanidade em meio àquela experiência de dor extrema e morte. A geração dos sobreviventes do Holocausto não será eterna, mas sua memória, ao ser registrada e divulgada, será um fator permanente para re-vivência dos fatos e sua compreensão, e para formar uma decisão de futuro que extirpe para sempre o ressurgir das intolerâncias e dos preconceitos, que se podem tornar armas diabólicas nas mãos de regimes totalitários.
