Aquest volum recull les contribucions que es van presentar a la vint-i-tresena edició del Col·loqui Lingüístic de la Universitat de Barcelona (CLUB 23), el qual, amb el títol «Noves aproximacions a la lexicografia dialectal», va tractar les diferents relacions que es poden establir entre la dialectologia i la lexicografia. En el marc d’aquesta trobada es va fer un èmfasi especial en els aspectes següents: els diversos elements diatòpics que són presents en els diccionaris dialectals, considerats tant des de la perspectiva diacrònica com des de la perspectiva diacrònica; la descripció de projectes que vinculen les disciplines esmentades —les característiques del Tresor lexicogràfic valencià o l’explotació informàtica del Diccionari català-valencià-balear—, i els aspectes més remarcables que configuren els diccionaris espontanis, duts a terme per autors no lingüistes, tot destacant la seva aplicació en l’estudi de la variació i del canvi lingüístics. El darrer capítol presenta una visió de l’estatut epistemològic del lèxic i la semàntica des de la mirada de la complèxica (complexitat) i presenta relacions entre l’estudi d’aquests vessants de la lingüística i aspectes de la cognició íntimament relacionats amb aquells des de la visió de la neurociència.

This manual is intended to fill a gap in the area of Romance studies. There is no introduction available so far that broadly covers the field of Catalan linguistics, neither in Catalan nor in any other language. The work deals with the language spoken in Catalonia and Andorra, the Balearic Islands, the region of Valencia, Northern Catalonia and the town of l'Alguer in Sardinia. Besides introducing the ideologies of language and nation and the history of Catalan linguistics, the manual is divided into separate parts embracing the description – grammar, lexicon, variation and varieties – and the history of the language since the early medieval period to the present day. It also covers its current social and political situation in the new local and global contexts. The main emphasis is placed on modern Catalan. Andalusi Arabic is a close-knit bundle of Neo-Arabic dialects resulting from interference by Ibero-Romance stock and interaction of some Arabic dialects. These dialects are mostly Northern but there are also some Southern and hybrid ones, brought along to the Iberian Peninsula in the eighth century A.D. by an invading army of some thousands of Arab tribesmen who, in the company of a much larger number of partially Arabicized Berbers, all of them fighting men alone, succeeded in establishing Islamic political rule and Arab cultural supremacy for a long while over these lands. The study of Andalusi Arabic is of enormous interest to the Arabic dialectologist, as well as a subject of paramount importance to those concerned with the medieval literatures and cultures of Western Europe.

This book is about the pragmatics of language and it illustrates how pragmatics transcends the boundaries of linguistics.
