Enrique Rapela (1911-1978) was a true pioneer. He knew the gauchos well and admired them for their skills, their customs, their loyalty. He was an autodidact who represented with words and drawings that world, as facinating as unknown to many. He was one of the creators of the gaucho cartoon, with memorable characters such as Cirilo el Audaz, Cirilo el Argentino, El Huinca and Fabián Leyes. He was an artistic advisor to gaucho films, and he illustrated several editions of Martín Fierro, among other titles. The texts of The Gaucho's Heritage originally appeared in three fascicles and have been organized into chapters and thematic parts, preserving their style and care for details. Together with the masterful illustrations, they make up a unique and must-have work that Editorial El Ateneo proudly presents. Spanish-English edition.

"Moving Otherwise examines how contemporary dance practices in Buenos Aires, Argentina enacted politics within climates of political and economic violence from the late 1960s to the present. From the repression of military dictatorships to the precarity of economic crises, contemporary dancers and audiences consistently responded to and reimagined the everyday choreographies that have accompanied Argentina's volatile political history. The central concept, "moving otherwise," names how concert dance - and its offstage practices and consumption - offer alternatives to, and sometimes critique, the patterns of movement and bodily comportment that shape everyday life in contexts marked by violence. Drawing on archival research, interviews, and the author's embodied experiences as a collaborator and performer, the book analyzes a wide range of practices including concert works, community dance initiatives, and the everyday labor that animates dance. It demonstrates how these diverse practices represent, resist, and remember violence and engender social mobilization on and off the theatrical stage. As the first book length critical study of Argentine contemporary dance, it introduces a breadth of choreographers to an English speaking audience, including Ana Kamien, Susana Zimmermann, Estela Maris, Alejandro Cervera, Renate Schottelius, Susana Tambutti, Silvia Hodgers, and Silvia Vladimivsky. This 2-volume book on the literature of Spain and Portugal represents an extraction from Bouterwek's most significant critical work entitled Geschichte der Poesie und Beredsamkeit seit dem Ende der dreizehnten Jahrhunderts (History of Poetry and Eloquence from the Close of the Thirteenth Century), in which the author has taken an historical and critical survey of the literature of the principal nations of Europe. The first of the following volumes is devoted to the history of Spanish, and the second to the history of Portuguese Literature. The subdivisions of the work correspond with periods marked out by certain revolutions in taste, produced by the rise of eminent writers, or by other influential circumstances. This collection explores walking poems improvised on a smartphone, as well as remixed classical and experimental forms. "Enter the religious landscape of California's industrial agriculture in the 1940s. Anthropologist Walter Goldschmidt's early 1940s reconnaissance tour of the social scene in the little town of Wasco offers us a composite picture of religious institutions in a typical industrial-ag town in the state. Anthropologists and sociologists of the time pointed to the proliferation of Pentecostal churches as evidence of industrial farming's undesirable social outcomes. In particular, they noted the enthusiastic and emotional expressions of Pentecostal services and how the recently dispossessed Dust Bowl or "Okie" migrants flocked into these churches. By the 1940s, Dorothea Lange's photograph of the Okie "Migrant Mother" capturing the pathos of white plight had surfaced and caught the national spotlight. California, many noted, had a migration problem, as many "undesirables" flooded into the state. Women such as the one captured in Lange's photograph "Revival Mother" standing and worshipping with eyes closed and raised hands in a makeshift garage church typified the poverty of Pentecostals described by the university researchers"--
