China S Stefan Zweig written by Arnhilt Johanna Hoefle and has been published by University of Hawaii Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-30 with Literary Criticism categories.

During his lifetime Austrian novelist Stefan Zweig (1881–1942) was among the most widely read German-language writers in the world. Always controversial, he fell into critical disfavor as writers and critics in a devastated postwar Europe attacked the poor literary quality of his works and excoriated his apolitical fiction as naïve Habsburg nostalgia. Yet in other parts of the world, Zweig’s works have enjoyed continued admiration and popularity, even canonical status. China’s Stefan Zweig unveils the extraordinary success of Zweig’s novellas in China, where he has been read in an entirely different way. During the New Culture Movement of the 1920s, Zweig’s novellas were discovered by intellectuals turning against Confucian tradition. In the 1930s, left-wing scholars criticized Zweig as a decadent bourgeois writer, yet after the communist victory in 1949 he was re-introduced as a political writer whose detailed psychological descriptions exposed a brutal and hypocritical bourgeois capitalist society. In the 1980s, after the Cultural Revolution, Zweig’s works triggered a large-scale “Stefan Zweig fever,” where Zweig-style female figures, the gentle, loving, and self-sacrificing women who populate his novels, became the feminine ideal. Zweig’s seemingly anachronistic poetics of femininity allowed feminists to criticize Maoist gender politics by praising Zweig as “the anatomist of the female heart.” As Arnhilt Hoefle makes clear, Zweig’s works have never been passively received. Intermediaries have actively selected, interpreted, and translated his works for very different purposes. China’s Stefan Zweig not only re-conceptualizes our understanding of cross-cultural reception and its underlying dynamics, but proposes a serious re-evaluation of one of the most successful yet misunderstood European writers of the twentieth century. Zweig’s works, which have inspired recent film adaptations such as Xu Jinglei’s Letter from an Unknown Woman (2005) and Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), are only beginning to be rediscovered in Europe and North America, but the heated debate about his literary merit continues. This book, with its wealth of hitherto unexplored Chinese-language sources, sheds light on the Stefan Zweig conundrum through the lens of his Chinese reception to reveal surprising, and long overlooked, literary dimensions of his works.

Studia Chrysostomica written by Adolf Martin Ritter and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Christian literature, Early categories.

English summary: This volume comprises 13 papers on John Chrysostom, most of which were published during the last four decades (the first and the last were unpublished up to now). The golden mouth was already the focus of Adolf Martin Ritter's postdoctoral project on Charisma as interpreted by John Chrysostom and his time, completed in 1970 and published in Gottingen in 1972, which served as a starting point and a background for many of the discussions in these Studia Chrysostomica. Since the author is accustomed to placing a lot of emphasis on the discussion with other positions, this collection not only provides far-reaching insights into the actual academic discussion on John Chrysostom but also documents the progress of the author's thinking as far as this Church Father and the chances and difficulties of understanding him are concerned.

Also the emphases (in bold text) on words/phrases used in original German is reflected in this new edition (emphases match the original writings). Any remarks or amendments are invited at [email protected]. File Preview available. For a NEW hardcover edition please see below*. _________________________________________________________________ Eternal Reality / Ewige Wirklichkeit (TRANSLATION) is part of the Hortus Conclusus monumental series of spiritual teachings by German poet, writer and painter, Bô Yin Râ (Joseph Anton Schneiderfranken) (1876-1943). The Hortus Conclusus consists of 32 books as well as spiritual paintings. This edition also includes the original emphases (of font) as intended by the Author. This is book twnety-nine of the Hortus Conclusus, Standard-translation(c) into English. Bô Yin Râ lived in Germany (Frankfurt, Görlitz, Berlin, Munich, Königsberg), Austria (Vienna), France (Paris), and Switzerland (Horgen, Massagno). (He) expressed his insights into the metaphysical structures of the eternal spiritual reality through art and writings. – GERMAN BÔ YIN RÂ FOUNDATION (to learn more about Bô Yin Râ, his life and work, visit www.bo-yin-ra-stiftung.de) Three collections of poems, Above the Everyday, Eternal Reality and Life in the Light - by a man who was born on Earth like all of us and is alive in the spirit. In his poems he is singing his autobiography, sometimes as man of the Earth, some-times as spiritual man. Many times he sings at the same time quintessentially our own biography as - still vaguely conscious - people of the spirit. His are poems that want to sink deep down into us where then our deepest selves respond. May every-body become acquainted with these poems which give insight into life and being. – the Publisher What I have to say is beyond belief and disbelief! I'm not a prophet who needs "confessors" – nor a fighter, who is looking for "followers" behind him, but only a mediator of spiritual insights about the real home of mankind. My writings shouldn't be "believed" but taken up objectively, to awaken innermost experience. – ABOUT MY WRITINGS Countless people – and in truth not just those whose souls are the most frigid – continually await an immense experience to shake their innermost depths. Since all their longing is incapable of summoning up this experience, they rush restlessly searching from experience to experience, caught up in the delusion that the hoped for experience is bound to be attained, if they could only locate the powerful phenomenon capable of overpowering their souls with its immensity. – SHOWING THE WAY A yearning is passing through the world, – a consuming desire, – and every soul not yet completely hardened and incapable of awakening feels gripped by it. (...) One ‘may’ once again believe in things which cannot been proven by 'experiments’, and one is no longer mocked for recognising that we are surrounded and influenced by the invisible, even if we cannot solve its mystery… The ‘miraculous’ would again become reality; the realm of faith extends its borders. – THE BOOK ON THE LIVING GOD The design of pages, emphases placed on particular words, use of spaces, long hyphens, exclamation marks etc. — included in this English translation enables ‘heart-Readers’ to meditate, to breathe-in while willingly absorbing the text as a ‘spiritual sustenance’. – Sarah Havah Theebaum, historian of ideas, painter, poet. _______________________________________________________ Note from the Editor (Books to Light) Any poetry, and here especially poems written by Bô Yin Râ are based on metaphors, symbols, pictures embedded in words and also nuanced ideas that are being presented in a poetic, indirect format. We may say that part of the poem is in front of the Reader's eyes and the other part is being written inside the Reader... as if being awakaned by the act of reading combined with Reader's achieved ability to resonate with the text. Thus the translation presented here is an attempt to capture in words the ideas as they live in the English language. The rythm, rhyme and musicality of the text can be best felt whilel reading (or listening to) the original text in German. ______________________________________________________ * Currently the hardcopy/hardcover edition of this book is published on the Amazon sites via the Kindle Direct Publishing - and is now available through all major Amazon country sites (including UK, Canadian and Australian sites). Space In Holocaust Research written by Janine Fubel and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-20 with History categories.

In recent years, the issue of space has sparked debates in the field of Holocaust Studies. The book demonstrates the transdisciplinary potential of space-related approaches. The editors suggest that “spatial thinking” can foster a dialogue on the history, aftermath, and memory of the Holocaust that transcends disciplinary boundaries. Artworks by Yael Atzmony serve as a prologue to the volume, inviting us to reflect on the complicated relation of the actual crime site of the Sobibor extermination camp to (family) memory, archival sources, and material traces. In the first part of the book, renowned scholars introduce readers to the relevance of space for key aspects of Holocaust Studies. In the second part, nine original case studies demonstrate how and to what ends spatial thinking in Holocaust research can be put into practice. In four introductory essays, the editors identify spatial configurations that transcend conventional disciplinary, chronological, or geographical systematizations: Fleeting Spaces; Institutionalized Spaces; Border/ing Spaces; Spatial Relations. Drawing on a host of theoretical concepts and addressing various historical contexts as well as different types of media, this book offers scholars and students valuable insights into cutting-edge, international scholarly debates.
