Scientific Study from the year 2014 in the subject Health - Nutritional Science, grade: A, The University of Kashmir, language: English, abstract: The present study focused on nutrition deficiencies of adolescent boys and girls. The field sample for the present study was undertaken in six districts of Kashmir valley J&K (viz, Srinagar, Budgam, Anantnag, Kupwara, Pulwama and Baramulla), covering a sample of 1500 adolescents i.e. 750 boys and equal number of girls in the age group of 10-19 years, study in Government Schools. The findings of the study suggests that lifestyle including nutritional habits track from adolescent into adulthood, thereby lead to increased incidence of chronic disease e.g. cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer. Exposure in childhood and adolescence to adverse life style and faulty food habits such as poor food intake, special meal preferences and patterns and above all sedentary life style may exacerbate this, thus worsening the prognosis. Hence promotion of healthy nutrition habits and physically active life style during adolescent period is a critical public health strategy.

With the major goal of building an inclusive international community that promotes peace-related research and action, this volume reflects on local, national and global peace engagement and works towards transdisciplinary understandings of the role of psychology in peace, conflict, and violence. Drawn primarily from 14th Biennial International Symposium on the Contributions of Psychology, the chapters focus on peacemaking--or the pursuit of harmony in human relations-- and peacebuilding--or equity in human relations-- with a special emphasis on voices from typically underrepresented areas in psychology, such as the Global South. In order to move beyond a Western-centered idea of peace psychology, the volume is divided into two major parts. The first half of the volume puts an emphasis on peace psychology research and praxis in a number of geohistorical contexts, including Malaysia, Northern Ireland, Thailand, and Kashmir, that bear on conflict, harmony and equity in human relations. Chapters in the second half of the volume fulfill the mandate of Biennial Symposia; namely, to create more equity in the production of peace theory and praxis by bringing forward the voices of scholars and change agents that are often unheard in peace discourses, including a number of scholars and chapters from South Africa. Until the 1970s gender had been invisible in analyses of social space and place in the androcentric discipline of geography. While recent contributions to feminist geography have challenged this, in India the engagement of geographers with gender, by being conservative in its choice of focus and orthodox in methodology, has been unable to destabilise the established disciplinary order. However, with younger scholars becoming increasingly interested in studying gender in geography, novel and innovative methods that include combinations of quantitative and qualitative analyses, visual sources and in-depth case studies are being tried out and accepted in geography despite its masculine legacy. This pioneering study brings together Indian geographers’ contributions to understanding gender, and through them, seeks to enrich the discipline of geography.
