Cave of the Nymphs at Pharsalus is the first book-length study of one of Greece’s most cited nymph sanctuaries. The volume includes a revised catalog, extensive new commentaries on the cave’s famous inscriptions, and a first-time investigation of the site’s topographical and archaeological layout. Also known as Alogopati or Karapla cave, the Pharsalian shrine holds a special place among ancient nymph caves as the only such site to feature an inscribed poetic chronicle of the shrine’s foundation and its founder, the mysterious nymph worshipper Pantalces. Based on years of fieldwork and archival research, Cave of the Nymphs challenges some commonly held views about the origin of this rock-cut ‘tale’ and offers a fresh perspective for understanding the Pharsalian cave in its proper historical context.

Dragonfly Nymphs Of North America written by Kenneth J. Tennessen and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-11 with Science categories.

This monograph is the first of its kind devoted entirely to the dragonfly nymphs of North America north of Mexico, the focus being accurate identification of the 330 species of Anisoptera that occur in the region. Nymphal external morphology is described and illustrated in detail, and all terms needed to navigate the dichotomous keys are defined. Species are tabulated with references that provide the most detailed, accurate descriptions for each; species that are inadequately described are so indicated. The key separating the seven families in the region contains several new characters. The families are then covered separately: Aeshnidae (13 genera), Gomphidae (17 genera), Petaluridae (2 genera), Cordulegastridae (2 genera), Macromiidae (2 genera), Corduliidae (7 genera), and Libellulidae (29 genera). Each family is further characterized, followed by a generic key. A drawing of the habitus and diagnostic details for each genus are provided, along with additional diagnostic remarks and notes on habitat and life cycle; for each genus, a map shows its geographic distribution in North America. Full-grown nymphs of all known species of each genus are keyed and diagnosed; characters that apply to earlier instars are noted. Morphological variation in character states was analyzed in order to assess the reliability of previously utilized characters and to discover new characters. Most of the characters used to distinguish all levels of taxa are illustrated; a total of 702 figures, comprising 1,800 original drawings, along with selected photographs where necessary for clarity, accompany the keys. Measurements of total length, head width, and other variables for each species are provided in tables. Difficulties with past keys and descriptions, including errors, omissions and other shortcomings, are addressed. The importance of nymph characters in helping solve generic and specific distinctions and their role in phylogenetic studies is emphasized. Methods for collecting, rearing, and preserving dragonfly nymphs and exuviae are presented. The final chapter discusses research opportunities on North American Anisoptera nymphs, including taxonomic needs, studies on structure and function, life history and microhabitat, water quality indices and conservation efforts. The habitus drawings of all genera are arranged according to family in five plates (Appendix I); although the book is intended as a lab manual, these plates conveniently allow for comparison based on nymph shape making field identification to genus possible in many cases. Appendix II contains a brief history of dragonfly nymph studies in North America. A glossary and an index to scientific names are included.

Greek Nymphs: Myths, Cult, Lore is the first comprehensive study of the nymph in the ancient Greek world. This well-illustrated book examines nymphs as both religious and mythopoetic figures, tracing their development and significance in Greek culture from Homer through the Hellenistic period. Drawing upon a broad range of literary and archaeological evidence, Jennifer Larson discusses sexually powerful nymphs in ancient and modern Greek folklore, the use of dolls representing nymphs in the socialization of girls, the phenomenon of nympholepsy, the nymphs' relations with other deities in the Greek pantheon, and the nymphs' role in mythic narratives of city-founding and colonization. The book includes a survey of the evidence for myths and cults of the nymphs arranged by geographical region, and a special section of the worship of nymphs in caves throughout the Greek world.

I bet you've probably heard about a nymph...or not. Maybe you heard about them in a class back in like fourth grade. Maybe it was in one of those movies that you watch with a box of popcorn. Well their versions are definitely wrong. Movies are a pretty bad source of information when it comes to creatures like us. Nymph's are really beings created with the Earth itself. We are the keepers of earth. After we become of age we reach our maximum power. For ages, Nymph's have shaped the world that it is today. Well, this isn't the other nymph's story, it's mine. Luna's life has been burned to ashes, literally. All of her family except for her brother has died in a horrible fire caused by the narcs, a race of paranormal hunters. For centuries they have killed beings like her, but that was twelve years ago. Now Luna is sixteen and living a normal human life with her older brother, Jay. Of course she can never be really human for she is a half nymph, but she tries. That peaceful life that they've created is shattered when Jay goes on a business trip. Luna faces a new dangerous power, love. She meets Kaden. A narc that is handsome and caring. Together they face an enemy who steals Luna's necklace that keeps her humanity in check, without it she can go insane. Kaden and Luna try to sort out their teenage hormonal selves and the paranormal ones as well. When Sam, their enemy, cuts the necklace he shreds Luna's sanity. It turns her into something that she feared about for years. Can she still love? Can Kaden save her?

Can we see water nymphs? Of course! Do they talk to us? Yes! There is so much more to our lives than buildings, traffic, TV, phones, etc. All these things are manmade, making them pretty much one-dimensional. Now, it's time to reveal the other dimensions to children of all ages, and that's exactly what this series is written to do! This first book in a new series - The Nature Realms - came from one day when Poet and Children's Author Ellen Hawkins was driving her car across a bridge and saw thousands of tiny silver water nymphs, their tingling vibrations of light dancing on the water. Collaborating with International Bestselling Author and Illustrator D. D. Scott, this series was born of their desire to show children our lost heritage of nature, showing them how we can each walk hand-in-hand with this Divine Teacher. Per the authors ... These books open up layer after layer of the new worlds that exist within our higher self. We are indeed beings of a multi-dimensional universe and multiple universes. And, inside our hearts and minds, and yours too, there are many keys to many doors which lead to these glorious, magic-filled realms. The veils between the worlds have been peeled back, allowing us to enter the secret world of nature. There we can see, feel, and know the Creator. It makes our hearts expand and burst open with even more love to share these stories with you, helping you know that there are so many touches of magic here on our Earth, magic that you, too, can feel, if you have the heart to do so. ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Ellen Hawkins is a regression surrogate, who accesses the Akashic records to find energy patterns from past lives that are impacting her clients at this moment. She and her partner Paul work together to clear and forgive the energy that is impacting their clients in a negative way in this lifetime. She's been doing this for over 40 years with wonderful results. In addition to her her healing services, she is available for speaking engagements and classes. She's also been writing poetry and short stories, and now children's books, her entire life, despite struggling with dyslexia. D. D. Scott is an International Bestselling Author, Writing & Publishing Coach, and Self-Publishing Strategist.
