Um caminho começa com um pequeno passo, não, não só um, vários passos, todos juntos, todos andando juntos. Assim eu vejo a educação, todos juntos, pés, talvez descalços, na areia do parque, tomara que o diretor não veja, senão ele vai brigar, por quê? Sei lá, talvez ele não tenha tido infância, esse momento mágico entre o dormir e o acordar, esse momento em que todos os sonhos são possíveis, que conseguimos transformar tudo, fazer tudo, podemos tudo, podemos? Podemos! Sim, podemos! Este é um simples e singelo livro sobre um pequeno trecho de minha trajetória educacional. Nessas linhas descrevi um pouco da magia que foi ser professora nessa EMEI e descrevi como plantar e colher cenouras, lembram, meninas, das cenouras? Vocês levaram para o coelho. E como fazer bolo de micro-ondas ou gelatina nas letras móveis, não ficou muito bom não, alguém colocou pó de gelatina demais (risos). Ou então aquele momento inesquecível daquela história especial. Nem todas as histórias especiais podem caber em um único livro, também, foram tantas, inúmeras, incontáveis histórias. Acredito que uma das que mais me marcou, que utilizei inúmeras vezes por ser uma das minhas preferidas, é sem dúvida a do O Pequeno Príncipe, de Saint-Exupéry: "Ele me deixou, antes de partir ordenou a um carneirinho que consertasse meu avião e deixou no manche um bilhete escrito com desenhos que foi fácil de entender, que dizia assim: 'Uma jiboia com muitos espinhos, um carneirinho com muitos baobás e um coração'. Ah! O meu coração! Mas está vazio?" Olhe sempre com o coração. Coração não se engana.

Sustainable development is often thought of as a product that can be obtained by following a prescribed course of interventions. Rather than conceptualizing it as a sweet spot of economic, ecological, and social balance, sustainable development is an ongoing process of embroilments requiring constant negotiation of often-competing aims. Sustainable development politics yield highly uneven results among different members of society and different geographic areas. As this book argues, such imbalances mean that sustainable development processes often prioritize economic over environmental goals, perpetuating and reinforcing economic and political inequalities. Governing the Rainforest looks at development and conservation efforts in the Brazilian Amazon, where the government and corporate interests bump up against those of environmentalists and local populations. This book asks why sustainable development continues to be such a powerful and influential idea in the region, and what impact it has had on various political and economic interests and geographic areas. In other words, as Eve Z. Bratman argues, sustainable development is a political practice in itself. This book offers detailed case study analysis, including of the creation of vast conservation corridors, the construction of one of the largest hydroelectric plants in the world, and new forms of land settlement projects. Based on a decade of Bratman's ethnographic fieldwork throughout Brazil, and particularly along the Trans-Amazonian Highway, Governing the Rainforest offers a fresh take on sustainable development within a multi-level analysis of actors, discourses, and practices.

Until the Rulers Obey brings together voices from the movements behind the wave of change that swept Latin America at the turn of the twenty-first century.
