O presente livro traz uma abordagem crítica sobre o contributo do turismo para o desenvolvimento regional e para a paz nas Áreas Transfronteiriças de Conservação da Comunidade para o Desenvolvimento da África Austral – SADC, focando fundamentalmente a Área Transfronteiriça de Conservação Okavango Zambeze – ATFC KAZA. O desenvolvimento sustentável do turismo nas Áreas Transfronteiriças de Conservação poderá proporcionar o desenvolvimento das comunidades locais, bem como a diminuição das assimetrias, da desterritorialização das comunidades autóctones a par da proteção da biodiversidade e da geodiversidade. A dimensão do território das Áreas Transfronteiriças de Conservação da SADC representa um factor impulsionador de dinâmicas positivas, objectivando o desenvolvimento sustentável do turismo, a conservação da biodiversidade e da geodiversidade, a proteção ambiental, o desenvolvimento das comunidades, a redução da pobreza, a minimização da insegurança e da desterritorialização das comunidades rurais. O desenvolvimento sustentável do turismo ocupa um papel relevante no conhecimento de novas culturas, de propulsionador da paz, de globalização como factor do conhecimento de novos territórios; torna mais próximos os espaços que algum tempo atrás eram considerados distantes e com o sentido de não pertença: hoje, com o desenvolvimento turístico e com um mundo mais globalizado, invertem¬-se os processos e as necessidades de pertença, num mundo onde todos devem ser partícipes.
