Tentando compreender um importante momento da história do ensino de língua portuguesa no Brasil, a autora examina a proposta apresentada na coletânea O texto na sala de aula: leitura e produção, organizada pelo linguista e professor gaúcho João Wanderely Geraldi (1946-), na qual estão reunidos textos dele e de outros professores e pesquisadores. A abordagem do trabalho é principalmente histórica, centrada em pesquisa documental e bibliográfica, tendo a pesquisadora, para tanto, também localizado, recuperado, reunido e ordenado outros textos de Geraldi, de modo a analisar a configuração textual da coletânea e compreender o conjunto de aspectos constitutivos do sentido da proposta para o ensino de língua portuguesa segundo o linguista. Para a autora, essa proposta sofreu significativa influência principalmente das ideias franchianas sobre o ensino, das ideias bakhtinianas sobre linguagem e das ideias linguísticas de origem francesa, que começaram a ser veiculadas no Brasil a partir da década de 1980, caracterizando o interacionismo linguístico como base teórica do que Geraldi defendeu para o ensino de língua portuguesa no país.

Os anos foram se passando. E o que em 1980 era inicialmente um conjunto de perspectivas formuladas para a educação foi lentamente se transformando em diferentes ações, propostas, projetos, políticas, decretos, orçamentos e reformulações. Tais iniciativas nem sempre consistentes e acertadas, muitas vezes desencontradas e equivocadas - formaram uma complexa trama de idéias e de gestos para o não menos complexo drama do ensino e da educação neste país. Deste tempo e desta trama participei em alguma medida, na companhia de colegas da universidade e de numerosos professores de Língua Portuguesa, de diferentes estados e regiões. Nosso trabalho foi se configurando lentamente numa sucessão de textos, vozes, encontros e acontecimentos, entre a teoria e a prática do ensino da língua portuguesa, a universidade e a escola de lQ grau. Rede de pequenas e anônimas lutas, conquistas e dificuldades, erros e acertos, dentro e fora da sala de aula, neste e naquele lugar. Esforço coletivo e partilhado de mudança nas práticas instituídas e legitimadas para o trabalho nesta disciplina, em nível de 5_ a 8_ série, a partir de um conjunto de idéias formuladas e publicadas no início da década, os Subsídios Metodológicos para o Ensino da Língua Portuguesa - 5_/8Q séries, de João Wanderley Geraldi que se asseminaram entre os professores buscando enraizamento em seu cotidiano de trabalho. O presente estudo é uma tentativa pessoal de resgate e discussão dessa experiência singular, a partir da memória pessoal, de um conjunto de documentos em que foi se fazendo seu registro e de depoimentos orais e escritos de alguns dos que nela se envolveram diretamente. Compreende o tempo e os processos pelos quais tais idéias se materializaram em texto escrito, o modo pelo qual foram divulgadas e discutidas com professores de português e as histórias por eles vividas no esforço de repensar e reorganizar suas práticas de sala de aula, transformando-as em gestos e ações concretas.

Semantic underspecification is an essential and pervasive property of natural language. This monograph provides a comprehensive survey of the various phenomena in the field of ambiguity and vagueness. The book discusses the major theories of semantic indefiniteness, which have been proposed in linguistics, philosophy and computer science. It argues for a view of indefiniteness as the potential for further contextual specification, and proposes a unified logical treatment of indefiniteness on this basis. The inherent inconsistency of natural language induced by irreducible imprecision is investigated, and treated in terms of a dynamic extension of the proposed logic. The book is an extended edition of a German monograph and is addressed to advanced students and researchers in theoretical and computational linguistics, logic, philosophy of language, and NL- oriented AI. Although it makes extensive use of logical formalisms, it requires only some basic familiarity with standard predicate logic concepts since all technical terms are carefully explained.
